Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Turbo Howl?

99 with 115K,



new truck for me... do I hear the turbo howling with a very slight load, quiet under heavy throttle pressure, quiet at coast. This truck replaced my 94 12 V

best start by pulling the intake boot off the front of the turbo and check for play in the shaft. filter clean?

Is the silencer ring removed? If it is, that would explain the howl.

I get a resonating howl at part-throttle (pedal/governer/fuel), light acceleration. A little un-nerving until you know what it is. During heavy accell, it gives that big-truck whistle-type noise spooling up. Once at highway speed, I don't hear much cruising until the grade changes to uphill, then you hear it whistle again. Done it since 30K whe I bought it.



May or may not be a problem. Lots of reading and experience on this forum
