High Tech HT62/71/13 Stainless Steel turbo

Has about 100k on it. Stage 1 injectors, Smarty tune and a PowermaxCR.

Lately in the cold the turbo has begun to howl especially at low rpms and gets quieter as she warms up. Friend said might be coking and/or soot buildup. Recommended replace the bearing pack.

Can this be done without unbolting the turbo?

Thanks

No, you have to disassemble the turbo to replace anything in it. Likely doesn't have bearings anyway, just a bushing that is oiled. You NOT be running a Smarty and a Power Max at the same time, pull the PowerMax out of the equation and retest, if the noise is still there likely a turbo rebuild is in order.

Been running the Powermax and the smarty for 11 years. Powermax usually on 3. Almost sure it needs a rebuild. End play like .1" Maybe that's why the valve seat dropped last year LOL

Thanks for your response. Looks like I'll be sending it out to Industrial Injection for the rebuild. Can't buy the parts for this Hi Tech 62/71/13 SS. It's a modified Borg Warner S300. I think it might need wheels too. The 71 wheel isn't readily available I'm told. Hi Tech can't get one anytime soon.

Well yesterday at spooldown I heard some grinding sounds. Wheel must be contacting the housing.
Turbo coming out today. Industrial Injection says they have the parts so out to them it goes.

Note I did not say you had to REMOVE the turbo to disassemble, I said you had to disassemble to replace anything. However, trying to replace bushing while the housing is still mounted will be problematic also and if there is damage you may require a new housing.

I think it's better to just remove the whole thing anyway. Not trying to dis you.

Have a look

Just pisses me off that Industrial injection won't sell me parts and Hi Tech can't get any till April/May
