I'm planning to install a II Phat Shaft 62 turbo this weekend. I read the instructions that came with the turbo, and they are a bit cursory, to say the least.

Does anybody have a written set of instuctions that will take me from disassembly of the stock turbo to reconnection of the new one? If not, any specific advice / tips to make the install easier.

Thanks for any and all help,

- Jason

Jason,

It is really strait forward and easy. I have done turbo swaps on my 89,2001 and 2003. I think the only diff on a 05 is the wastgate's electronic connection. most of the time the hardest part is breaking loose the 4 nuts that hold the turbo to the manifold. Just start disconnecting all items that attach i. e. exhaust, intercooler connection, oil drain tube (10mm) intake boot, oil feed line etc and get them out of your way and tackle the 4 main bolts. On my 03 i found that you can get to the 2 closest to the block from underneath the truck w a long extension. (several in my case) Install the new gaskets and reverse the process. Double check all for tightness as you don't want to blow the intercooler boot off as it will scare the begeesus out of you. Make sure that you add a couple drops of oil to the oil feed port of the turbo and spin it by hand to make sure their is some lubrication in their as it is waiting for the oil preasure to come up. Break in per mfg specs and you will be all smiles.

Hope this helps

Diesel Dan, jwilliams - thank you so much for your help.

Few more questions: Am I right in assuming the oil supply line is on top, the oil outlet line is on the bottom? Do I need to coat the threads of the oil lines with any specific material (ie. thread lock or high temp anti-seize)? Should I take the passenger front wheel off, take the wheel well liner off, and jack up the truck, or do you think I will be able to get to everything from above and underneath the truck?

Thank you again very much for your help,

Jason

Make sure to torque and assemble the drain tube to the new turbo before you set it into the truck.

Prelube turbo with plenty of clean new oil and spin shaft before installation.

You dont need to remove your wheel well liner or wheel.

You can do it all from above if your arms are long enough.

Use anti seize on the turbo/manifold nuts before re-install.
