A friend of mine had a high tech turbo and it took a crap last week imput shaft took a dump. He was complaining of bucking an loss of power. I started getting some bucking and loss of power. I check my imput shaft an it is wobbling and bent. #@$%! Anyone else have this problem with this turbo. The turbo isnt that old and never beat on. Now time for yet another turbo. #@$%!. I bought it from source Automotive and it was claimed to be a great turbo. JUNK.

No offense to anyone intended - my HTT 64/14 has performed flawlessly going on 3 years now. And incase anyone's wondering - I've never been referred to as "Feather-footed". I don't run it hard and put it away wet, I "ALWAYS" let it cool down to 300* "ALWAYS". So far so good.

Sorry you didn't have similar success w/your 62

me too .

The turbo you refer to is based on a BorgWarner (Schwitzer) model that is very durable. However, any single turbo that is routinely taken to high boost (over 30 psi) will experience bearing (bushing) wear over time. Change the oil regularly and let the egt cool to 300 deg before shut down. Check the shaft side play and end play occasionally with a dial indicator. When side play gets near . 025” it is time to send the center section (cartridge) back for rebuilding and precision balancing.

Thanks for your info. I was under impression it was durable. The truck is never beat on and always allowed to cool down. any idea what rebuild costs? again thanks for your help .

Well at least I'm not the only one with turbo problems, but ive got a hybrid holset 40/35. On my third one in 6 months so far, all warranties at least. I was told the shafts holset was makin weren't any good and had one rebuilt with an older shaft with success so far. And I always let em cool to 300 and never get em over 1200 degrees or 40 psi. I've had several friends have the same issues with holsets lately, and have been looking for a replacement to go with next time I break one, my supplyer agreed to work with me on something similar in size if it does, but idk what to go with, since other brands are having problems. I def don't need anything smaller, slightly bigger would be fine but I like my trucks streetable manners with this size range turbo. Any suggestions on something more reliable?

My god, between these three turbos, the three clutch hydraulics in six months and two clutches over the past year or so (mentioned here) I think you've had a pretty rough year parts-wise

Good luck with all that, man. :)

Lmao yes you are right but acutally that's not even all the story. I hit a deer almost a year ago and bout totaled it and had to pretty much rebuild everything under the front end after hitting an enbankment. Also last January I blew two headgaskets lol. I think I'm hard on parts and have the worst luck too, I've replaced just about every part on my truck, a lot of them more than once to get something to hold up to me, and have only had it 3 years, but for some reason I still love it lol. If a woman gave me that much aggravation Id be rid of her in no time haha

I thought i was the only one w bad luck. guess if i didnt have bad luck id have no luck at all . now im debating twins

I had the HTT Stainless Steel 62/13 Super Stock on my 02' that I sold. I had it for 2 1/2 years with no problem. It had a much more aggressive whine at idle than my previous S300. It flowed a lot more air than my previous S300 and would really let loose with a giant whoosh sound if you backed off the throttle suddenly. I had problems with the lower clamp on my Spearco intercooler backing off and causing me to loose boost which would spike the EGT's to 1400-1500 until I could find a safe place to pull over. I ran synthetic oil with an Amsoil Bypass and never had any problems.
