South Bend Does it again

Kore leveling

Been pondering a question. What makes one turbo louder than another? Can changes be made to one that will make it louder? I really enjoy the whistle and would like to have it louder.

If you are running the stock air box... . you'll hardly hear any whistle.

I bought a AEM Brute Force intake with the dry-flow filter... . took 15 minutes to install and it sounds perfect now. You know the sound of a big rig when you are cruising past it... you don't hear the sound of the trucks engine, you hear the turbo whistle. No need to disturb the silencer ring either,as I think it funnels air more effectivley in to the turbo intake than with the ring removed.

I see you are running a BHAF... . that should allow plenty turbo whistle.

if you really want to hear the turbo, just pop out the silencer ring, but keep it close, you might want to replace it.

good luck

The turbo on the KW I drive is much louder than a HX-40. Particularlly when the flex pipe right after the turbo breaks. :-laf Have a new pipe, now.

But, what makes one louder than another? What part or parts contribute to the whistle? For example you mentioned the Sledpuller 66. What makes it whistle more than say an hx35, hx40, or phat shaft?

The Silencer ring has been put through the tests, and it seems like the only thing it does is silence the turbo, and nothing else. . No positive, or negative results. (Unless you call loosing your hearing a positive reult. . LOL)

The BHAF Whistles okee dokee, but the AFE/K&N/AEM, etc. will sound louder than a regular paper filter...

The SledPuller sounds pretty good, but the factory turbo sounds pretty good too.

You could get a Scotty II air box. They can be vented into the cowl (4" hole in cowl) to allow cool air induction. That also kinda puts the turbo in your face. The Scotty's are reported to be the loudest air intakes. It makes sense too that a bigger turbo moving more air would make more noise. There is a suped-up 7. 3 Excursion down the street from me. I don't know what kind of intake/exhaust parts he has, but that thing sounds like it's going to leave the tarmac every time it goes by.
