I just installed a schwitzer 62/13 turbo with a AFE stage #2 filter.

The problem, it sounds like a 747 spooling up for take off in the cab. I have tried dynamat in the cowl area, plus behind the dash as best as possible and only got it down to a tolerable level.

I would really like to keep this filter because it flows a lot of air, but the noise is too much.

Have anybody figured out a way to make it quieter? I haven't been able to find out where the noise is getting in.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Dave

I got it from Dynomite Diesel Performance in Monroe Wa. I love the turbo, Spools fast and holds well. No complaints at all,I just want to hear my radio now and then.

HDM, my stocker turbo is not very loud, I'll trade ya, I'll even include the silencer ring:-laf I'd like to hear a sound clip of how loud it is. I agree with those that say can't make them loud enough. I've run out of ideas on how to make the 35 louder.

I have a dodgezilla, which is louder than the HTT 64/14 it replaced, and the scotty II intake, which is supposed to be real loud, and I got used to it just fine.

Id say just drive it for a while, it will grow on you. I dont know any way else to quiet it down, maybe some insulation in the cowl area??

WHat do you have around the filter itself? Since it is a Stage 2, and you say it flows the air, I'd assume the stock box got pitched. That leaves me in the dark, as I am not up to speed on this and that filter/ intake system. When I ran a BHAF in leiu of a stock air filter box, the turbo noise was increased, with only a PDR HX35. Try covering/ soundproofing the filter (or housing, if you got one) and get back to us.

It's cool running around town, but not cool on a road trip, especially when towing! For some reason the stock turbo on my '98 is dead quiet, even with a BHAF on it. I can only hear it with the windows rolled down and listening carefully, cannot hear it at all in the cab, even with stock exhaust and cat in place. I like it that way since I take the '98 on long jaunts from time to time.
