I read somewhere that if one wanted to put a HX35 on a non-intercooled engine you had to change the oil feed line for the turbo. What do I need to get to make a HX35 work on my truck? Is it an adapter that screws into one that I can get from Cummins?

One more while I'm here... for the 35 which would work better for driving, a 12cm housing or a 16cm?

16 is the all around choice for DD and towing. No need to change the oil feed line. The nonIC'd H1C's oil feed line threads directly into it. The thread size is smaller on the IC'd H1C and HX35 so the use of an adaptor is needed. I went to a junkyard and got the adaptor off a HX35 for my swap. I'm sure its available from Cummins or local parts/hardware store.

Hye, dont forget the plumbing nightmare of getting the HX35 outlet to the crossover. If I had it to redo, I'd go about it differently, but it isnt bad. I think i have pics of my setup in my reader's rigs. THere, or maybe in a thread. Email me and I can get you some pics this weekend (when I have net access again). My oil feed line and adaptor (which I think you need, regardless of H1C/Hx35/???) threaded right into the HX35. Maybe I just got lucky for once.

As Daniel said plumbing to the crossover will have to be adapted, as will the inlet from the air filter... the HX35 has a 4 inch opening, and yours is 3 inch.

I am in the process of creating a new crossover pipe in 3 inch to match up with a WH1C compressor housing and a nifty 3 inch intake horn (thanks again Bill)... . stay tuned.

Daniel,

Can you give me a parts list for the crossover (size of clamps and plumbing)? Is the adapter already threaded into the top of the H1C? Forgot to look to see if it already had one. What did you do to get the inlet tubing to fit the 35?

Jay,

Post some pics when you get it together.

Already have a 35 with a 16 housing on the '97... hhhhmmm... might have to get bigger turbo for the '97 and swap them out... .

Check out Daniels readers rigs for some pics, also check out 'Partsman's' readers rigs album for crossover ideas. Although he used a hx40 and a aftercooler mounted to the intake, some principle, clock the 35 so it points towards the intake just like the old h1c. Possibly use an elbow like Partsman used that can be found off your 97, get a IC'd intake horn, face it towards the turbo, then short piece of 3" pipe, welded up, or like I plan to do to my 91 use the straight piece of intercooler pipe, cut to length, then just IC boots and clamps on each end- pipe to turbo elbow, pipe to intake horn... Both the intake horn and turbo elbow can be had from Cummins for less than $30 each.

And again, you will need an adaptor. As far as inlet tubing, get a intake hose from a IC truck 91. 5-93 or 4"intake system from tdr vendor or make your own using pipe and 45*elbows and such... .

bgilbert thanks for the suggestion of looking at partsman's pics.

That's where I am headed but without the intercooler.
