Can anyone give me some suggestions on how to repair a leaky turbo oil return pipe? It's not leaking bad, but starting to run down the right hand side of the block. Include what parts to buy, step by step procedure, what has to be removed, and what cautious to be aware of. Thanks in advance :D . I've read so many great explinations on TDR on how to keep our trucks in good running order ;) .

Patrick.

Hi Patrick,

I think this is a pretty easy one to do.....

There is the fibre gasket that seals the drain pipe to the turbo center section, there are a couple rubber hose's w/hose clamps and that's about it.

It's not uncommon for the hoses and their clamps to slowly begin to fail over time... just from normal usage/age.

The only reason you should have a leak any more complicated than that is, perhaps, the oval shaped flange that is welded to the downpipe may have a hairline crack... . other than that it should not leak.

The rubber hose portions of this system is subjected to some fairly high temps as the oil passes thru and exit's the turbo center section. That heat can break down the hose's integrity and ability to remain sealed against the metal tube.

I bet if you get yourself a couple replacement hoses and clamps along with a new oil drain gasket you should be good to go.....

I don't know about the 1st gen, but I'm assuming it's about the same as the 2nd gen?

that hose is a silicone hose, and it's like $35 from Cummins. There's 2 10mm bolts holding the pipe to the turbo and then 2 clamps holding the hose.
