Anyone ever had trouble with proper turbo oiling? It seems that I am not getting enough oil flow through the turbo... My turbo went out on me, so I installed another good, used one. Three miles later, it too was shot... meaning all kinds of shaft play and the fans gauging the housing.

I pulled the oil feed line off and started the truck up for +- 20 seconds. It pumped approx 1 pint (1/2 quart) of oil out. Is this enough?

Anyone ever heard of something like this before or even better, know how to fix it??? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, I just ordered a new HX35/40 16cm hybrid from High Tech Turbo (www.htturbo.com)... I don't want to blow this one up!

Have you taken the engine oil's pressure while running? Also did you drain the oil pan and flush the oiling system before adding the new (used) turbo? Did any matterial get into the intake side? Your crude oil measurment, seems very low. On start-up you should be seeing 75 lb/sqin for oil pressure. Also did you see any matterial in the oil drain side?

20 seconds under normal operating conditions will almost drain the entire sump. I would say what you have is not normal. Check your oil pressure, and ensure there are no blockages in the line feeding the turbo. Also, and i know this is dumb, but make sure the motor has enough oil in it.

do not forget to check the oil return hose for blockage. It "may" be OK on the incoming side but it doesn't do much good if it won't allow anything to go out.

Did you fill (or prime) the new used turbo with oil after you put it on, if not you ran it without oil for a few seconds and that`s all it takes to burn the bearings. The amount of oil you have going to it should be plenty.

No, I did not prime it. It did not occur to me to do that... pretty dumb I guess. I just figured it would pump oil in there fast enough... . I guess not.

The oil supply line is not clogged and there are no other "obvious" problems.

Thanks for the tip. Another rather expensive lesson learned... .

When I installed my PDR HX-40 I primed the turbo by having the wife start the truck and let it idle for a few seconds with me holding the compressor wheel. At idle it didn't try to turn very hard and I knew it would be primed good.

Before connecting the oil line, I had her start it to make sure the line was clear. I can believe it would empty the sump pretty quick, lots of oil flow out of that little line!
