never having the experience of a failing turbo I'm really not sure whats going on here but my stock turbo is squealing when it gets up in boost (like 20+psi). Boost is still there and egt's don't seem to be different. Smoke about the same if any change at all. . Just have the squeal noise. Sounds like a loose wet fan belt when in boost but @ lower boost there is no indication. One other thing that is noticeable is the swoosh noise is all of a sudden much louder. . I pulled the stock intake hose to see if maybe those baffles got loose or broken but all was good. I felt the turbo shaft for play but doesn't seem abnormal. Any insight welcome.

thanks,

Ken

I would carefully follow and tighten all your boost hoses between the turbo and air intake horn to be sure you're not leaking somewhere. My feeling is your turbo's not on its way out.

Thanks Vaughn. I sure hope you are right as that would saved me a chunk of $$. I'll post back what I find. thanks again!!

I am guessing you have a tear in the hose off the turbo. With the TST I have already blown a factory and a 4 ply silicone hose.

I dont believe your turbo is going out I think you have an exaust leak my truck has done this several times mine does it more with the exaust break look for black soot around all exaust connections Randy

Had an OLD onan/cummins diesel powered UPS truck that I would drive and It did the same thing when the exhaust manafold was loose. It sounded BAD!!!

We've got some winners here!! you guy's hit it spot on. . I should have listened before I bought a turbo rebuild kit. I started to yank the turbo yesterday and when i went to pull the bolts that hold the turbo to the manifold ... . bingo. One missing and the other three loose enough to hand. I managed to wreck a boost clamp. . threads all boggered... so I'm trying to get my hands on one of those now. Thanks again!!

Like Aaron said, check that flexible hose off of the compressor housing on install. If I remember, it's like a laminated cloth type stuff and will squeal or wheeze when it leaks. It was a pain, but I squeezed a heavy rubber tube in there.
