what I am looking for is some advice/ recomedations on what I should do while rebuiding. I have a rebuilt injection pump with a flow rate of 210cc it has a fuel plate I believe a 10 and I have 370 injectors both pump and injectors are brand new and going into the new rebuild. I need to replace the turbo and have no clue what to pick been looking at hx40 is that the right track? Also as for the engine should i put a cam in it and if so which one and any other block or head mods like boreing or porting that I should do I want this truck to get it when Im done. I do tow some but in the 10k or under crowd most of the time. thanks in advance

How big is your budget? There are a lot of choices. I'd do twin turbo's, a stage 2 port and o-rings on the head. Then clamp it down with studs. I have 2 aftermarket camshafts, so I know that I would do that again.

well i dont want to go that crazy I want to stick to a single turbo the question there is what size can I go with and not have too much lag thats why I was thinking of the hx 40 just a little more I have read some about a hy35? which is a hx40 compresser in a 35 housing I believe and what type of camshafts have you had and would recomend

I have a PDR re-ground and a new stage 3 cam from Peak Diesel. The PDR is more than likely a Colt cam but I did not ask who made the other. If you go with the stage 3, use 24 valve tappets (lifters). A cam will help to keep the EGT in check, improve spool-up, and give better mileage. Either one will help, just stay within the budget.

I like the Super B turbo which is a S300 turbocharger. Turbo lag is not an issue. Also have a Piers reworked HX35. I love that turbo, but it can not flow like a Super B.

The head on the 95 has been ported and o-ringed by PDR when Piers was an owner. The 98 wears a stock head for now. The porting helps to lower EGT and improve spool-up.

I will not claim to know it all, but I know that I would run as much turbo as you can. You tow some as do I. A S300 would be where I would start, but others will have more experience than I.

You will have enough fuel to make things a bit toasty for a HX35 (reworked or not) as well as a HX40. EGT would be an issue especially towing.

do you know what stage 3 cam you have that you like they list 3 different ones from what I see they have the same lift and duration but have different prices as for the turbo do you know what is going to be required as per modifications to bolt it up and what is the differance in the tappets between the 12v and 24v

NBS camshaft with stage 3 grind $599. 00. Get the bolt and retainer too because you do not want to experience "cam walk". I had to tweak/dimple the turbo oil return/drain line at the turbo. A 4 inch down pipe from the turbo. Both trucks have 4 inch exhausts. The 24 valve tappets are bigger than the 12 v. This broader base gives more surface area in contact with the camshaft. That is a good thing as ramp speed increases (cam profiles are more aggressive).

With the amount of fuel you have an HY is not enough turbo, it is really only an HX with a modified turbine side.

Something with at least a 62 mm compressor and 70-74 mm turbine wheel with extended tip technology should work well. Either a PS or SPS 62\12 from II or a comparable one like the SS 13 from HTT should cool things down.

Will depend on the use you intend and the transmisson. A manual will allow a larger turbo but you will be shifting a lot to keep it lit. An auto takes a smaller better spooling turbo to work correctly.

If you want something good be prepared to spend $1500-2500 for a good one.

anyone know of a good place to look for the turbo and it is a manual and its getting rebuilt now too with the updated mainshaft nut and a new fifth gear. I am also putting the top off of the 98 nv4500 going to the square top with the bd short throw kit all thanks to Noe I think is how you spell it at standard gear
