Good post by Gary at the end. That kinda wrapped it up. Man, I didn't realize they were having problems. This might give new meaning to the "Like a Rock" advertisement.

Like a Rock
I'm as still as I can be
Like a Rock
Overboost really got to me
Like a Rock
The drivetrains shaking on the start
Like a Rock
I think I'm built just like a car
Like a Rock
OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH Like a Rock

Thank ya... . thank ya very muuuuuch.

Something to be said for having the Cummins. Any truck dealer, Diesel shop and Cummins Dealer in North America can give a hand if need be. Heck I can get filters and parts from 6:00am to Midnight at the local Cummins dealer, not to mention the Dodge dealers across the land.

Like the guy said "$85000 of truck and trailer that I can't use"
My suggestion, Rent a Cummins.....

I hate to say it but he might have $85,000 invested in it but he don't have $85,000 worth of truck and trailer. "Oh you wanted 300 hp when you were pulling a load? I'm sorry sir, we defuel when you really need the power. It's only 300 when you are grocery shopping. The rest of the time we scale it back to 150 hp when you put a few thousand pounds behind you. " What I really like is cycling the key on and off to make it "reset". I probably wouldn't be so angry if they weren't booting Cummins owners off their web site or suggesting that we don't want different we want better. Excuse me while I choke. I've owned a Cheby Diesel and GM can rest assured I'll NEVER cross their threshold again.

Whoooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Like a Rock. Sing it.

Don't forget your local tractor dealer. Lots of 5. 9's in tractors as well.

And incase you ever get really desperate, dont forget the big superdooties have cummins in them too. #ad

I said from the start that "time will
tell on the Duramaxes" and I believe
we are beginning to see the "real life
problems in the field. " As time goes
on there will be more too!! I feel bad
for the poor souls who are buying these
very expensive trucks and can't even use
them to tow what they want to.

Good grief, these guys would be satisfied with day old dog poop if it had gravy on it! This same lame software was used in the 6. 5 liters with the same results. THEY AIN"T REAL DIESELS!!!!! They are built by Generous Manipulators. These are not "human error", they are social security for weak engines, and warranty cost protection. Nuff said.

Check out "drawson's" entry above this
one. He "smoked" a Duramax with his 12-

Turbo was probably "overpowered or over
revved!!!"

AHHhh - so *I* wasn't the ONLY one eh?

I hung around over there being generally supportive to their bunch (after all, *I* like to know about new stuff too!), only injecting opposing comments to keep things in perspective when they got pretty abusive towards Dodge owners - and the moderator got pushed outta shape that someone DARED counter their insults, and locked up my registration so I can't post there...

I absolutely DETEST double standards, and they love to dish out insults and gripe about THIS being a closed board - but then THEY lock out any who disagree in the slightest with their Dodge-bashing or GM cheerleading... Sure doesn't say much for their integrity or fairness in MY book... #ad

The new DM's MAY or may NOT be all fine and dandy - but the OWNERS, as represented in their group are a SORRY bunch in MY estimation - especially the moderator! #ad

The 24V ISB had a vaguely similar setup... where, if you turned the fuel up enough, the boost created would cause the computer to reduce the fuel. I think it's stupid, but somebody wrote it in there for some reason - maybe just to try to defeat BOMBING efforts.

But this business about all but shutting the engine down is silly. All it takes is a minor change in a line or two of code in thier EPROM to cause it to simply reduce power until the parameter comes back into line. Perhaps overboost is a longevity issue with the DM... It was with the 6. 5, to be sure. However, if you could defeat the boost limits, the 6. 5 would actually get up and go pretty good. I've driven one that was... it would rip until the computer figured out it wasn't in control, and then go into "limp mode" where it seemed to have about 65% power or so.

What isn't suprising to me, is that GM is road-testing these trucks on the customer. The Customer does the testing and GM eventually finds fixes if the warranty costs are too high.

As far as GM techs learning to fix them? Don't hold your breath. I dealt with them for more than a decade and I can't say that very many made giant strides in knowledge and understanding levels. They seemed more adept at manipulating warranty papers and making up excuses than at really fixing stuff.

Power Wagon, You hit it, Bud. They are pulling the Microsoft trick of send out the product and let the customers tell us if there are any problems. I know Cummins defuels but at least it doesn't require a system reset to get it moving again. I just hope they've done a little more homework over at GM than I think. As good as the diesel truck reputation has been with Ford and Dodge, it would be sad to have a new truck enter the market with a new diesel that makes people hate them again. I know it took me a long time to decide to buy one again after owning one of GMs 3500s with the diesel back in the 80s.

I have no sympathy for those GM owners. Prior to the DMax coming out, the GM guys were saying how it was the most throughly tested diesel GM has ever made. They were pretty arrogant!! You cant tell me that GM didnt know about this while testing the truck. (if it was tested) Brand loyalty has its price, and the GM guys are paying a very high price for it. I guess some would rather have a GM at all cost even if if means making payments while your truck is in the shop.
