My Buddy had his truck in the Midwest - pulling a 26 ft. trailer. turbo went out - bearing failure the resulting metal sections went in to the engine, not good - new long block. Now I am a long time Diesel nut and cant recall that type of failure, so I am wondering what happened to cause this chain of events, any suggestions? Better tell you what truck 2006 Dodge 2500 auto trans stock 150.K on the clock.

Cannot say exactly why without a deeper failure analysis, but the "journal bearings" in the stock turbo are no more then precision sleeve bushings that rotate with a thin film of lubricating oil between them. ANY problems with the oil flow can result in failure. This includes "coking" of the turbo shaft if the truck is shut off too hot too may times.

Thank you that would be my hunch, but don't know for certain, truck was loaned to a family member so it cold be?

I would be highly suspicious ANY metal from the turbo made it into the engine, getting it past the CAC would be a major feat. Pretty typical failure if they are run hard and put away wet. The HE351 does not like high boost and quick lift off the throttle or barking it, they are pretty tough but can be grenaded if one does not pay attention. Stock tuning pushes a LOT of heat into the manifold and turbo contributing to failures also. I simply would never tow that large a load without tuning, it be dangerous.

Thanks for the information, not having 1st hand knowledge makes it difficult, the truck and load was on its way to Mt. when the brake down happened, the truck is in a Cummins shop now, the have pulled the engine and as far as I know getting a rebuild to install. I know running with a load, my 96 3500 has bigger turbo Banks twin intake stinger exhaust 5 speed w/ US gear under and Gear Vender over back of the transfer case, my normal load is a 3 axle 5th wheel hook up, boat trailer, laded trailer 21K or so, more when I fill the boat 150 gal. and truck 70 gal. thanks once more.
