i was talking to some guy and he told me that my new 4" exhaust with no muffler was going to distroy my turbo?

i dont really believe him, he also said that he knew a bunch of guys with fords that did this and lost thier turbo's

any comments

That's complete BS.

The F*rd guys probably lost their turbos because they were beating on their trucks more - just because they could now hear more whistle out the tailpipe.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they were taking out turbos because of crankcase oil diluted with diesel fuel.

That guy must have hit the crack pipe really hard the night before. I would stay far away from that guy and his horsesh!t comments.

I know a Ford guy who lost his turbo without doing anything. It was his work truck and he only had 6500 miles.

Does he let the engine cool off before shutting the engine down?

That will kill a turbo faster than anything else other than mechanical failure from foreign objects or what not.

I sold my engine and drivetrain and installed in a guy's truck who didn't have a big enough dia. exhaust system to hook up to it.

He drove 200 miles home with just enough pipe to point the exhaust down past the frame.

He loves it so much, that he hasn't gotten around to installing the rest of the exhaust system. Almost zero back pressure and the turbo loves it.

Remember, the turbo rpm is controlled by both the wastegate and the resistance from generating boost in the compressor section - cats and mufflers can raise backpressure and also restrict peak rpms and thus boost.

I think he said that his compressor wheel exploded. After much complaining and fear that the engine had ingested debris, he got a new replacement engine.
