We've obtained a 1994 Cummins that we intend to "transplant". The turbo on the unit has the following info on the data plate;

- Holset assy 3533320 Ser. C 0561784

Customer # 3925740-0-04\5 type WH1C

Can anyone tell me what the heck it is? HX-35? or?

Also, while I'm in asking question mode - What did they do to the engine between '94 - '96 175 HP and the '97 215 HP? I suspect different injectors? what else?

Thanks for the help!

Dave

The turbo sounds like a WH1C (clamped and bolted) that was standard on the '89-94 Dodge CTD. This info is paraphrased from Dave Fritz's page: The WHC1 came standard with a 18cm exhaust housing from '89-'93, but changed to a 12cm housing in '94.

I pulled one out of a '93 FL70 (w/200k) and replaced it with a Piers HX-35 w/16cm housing. I think you're right on the HP increase being due to the 215HP injectors available from Bosch.

Thanks guys,

I wonder how I can check the size. I think the 12cm would be OK, but am worried about using a 18cm housing for an automatic with mild bombs. Is a HX 35 a way better turbo? What about the HY 35?

Dave

The HX is better in the high 200hp range, but the WH1C will be okay under 275 or so. Look in the inlets to the turbine housing (where the exhaust would go in) and clean it out a little. The housing size should be stamped in there. Probably a 12 if it came off a P-pumped 12v.

DPelletier's question about the WH1C turbo prompted me to check mine and I found that it is also a WH1C.

I have had a Banks Power Pak in the truck for several years and it has worked out real good but am contemplating replacing the Banks plate with a TST #5 for better towing capability.

According to KLockliear's info about the WH1C, I may be making a mistake unless I change to the HX35.

I hesitated to butt in on DPelletier's thread but this may be of interest to him as well.

I've got a 94 with a wh1c and it is very possible to push over 275 hp with it I'm sitting at 386 with mine right now so I would not be too worried with it.

oh by the way there is a lot different with the P-pump I will explain if you would like.

Howard, No Problem! I am interested.

Drice, explain away. It isn't too late for us to return the '94 and wait for a '96 or '97 if the P7100 from the '94 isn't as good. Please elaborate before we go ahead and install.

Thanks

Dave

not a problem hope this will help

The 215 pump has a double helix design cam that allows it to pump much more fuel, the 160,175,and 180 pumps do not have this cam design and cannot pump the amount of fuel of the 215. An example of how much difference there is, is when you slide the plate on a 160,175,180 pump you get about 15 –20 hp when you slide the plate on a 215 pump you get about 50 hp. Besides the cam the barrels and plungers are larger (can’t think of the size right off the top of my head) and the delivery valves are 181’s.

depending on what you are wanting to do with the truck. the 215 pump in the most wanted stock pump around (for power) there are several people that can make the 160 175 and 185 pumps really (sing).

but for stock pumps the 215 is probley the way to go.

now if you just want a daily driver truck my 175 pump is fine not as much fuel as the 215 but I'm pushing 386hp with a stock turbo and for most people that plenty of power .

hope tha helps
