What is the inside diameter of the rubber hose at the end of the turbo return line at the base of the engine block? What type of hose should I use, (I can go to "Hoseman" for any material). Do I have to remove the steel oil line from the turbo? Can I just replace the hose by cutting it off and replacing with a new one. Anyone have pictures? I'm taking another weekend tour and it's been leaking down the side of the oilpan. Could this hose totally rupture? Thanks for any insights, materials, dimensions, and strategies to get this job done right the first time!

Happy Holidays to everyone, Patrick:D

Use your engine serial and pick one up at ANY dealership that sells any Cummins engine parts.

Or, take it off and match one at a hose supplier. That thing is silicone hose. Use the appropriate material. If you use a rubber hose it will last only a short spell.

Remove the steel tube would be preffered method and replace the gasket. I never tired to cut one off and slip a new hose on with the tube in place. Perhaps others could comment on that trick.

I never had to replace one.

The Cummins part number for the hose is 3286499. It is an oddball dia ( approx 22. 3mm - I measured the pipe with a digital caliper). Cummins does this so that people won't use an inferior product ( like heater hose) and then have an engine failure. It is a high temp silicone material. Shadrach

Supplyline bolt torque?

Thanks for the quick response, (TDR people>Fantastic!). I picked up a hose today before I read posts. I'll get the supplyline gasket Tuesday. What is the torque for the two bolts? I looked throgh the D/C service manual and I could not find the torque settings. I'm traveling again Wednesday-Sunday planning on under 750-miles totally trip. How much oil pressure goes down the tube? I rather wait to do the work on the next oil change which is in about 1000-miles. Thanks for the continued wealth of information.

Patrick. :D

I believe the torque is 18 ft lbs. It is only an 8 mm bolt. The tube is for oil return so "pressure" is minimal. Shadrach

Done>turbo oil return hose!

Most challenging step was getting the old gasket off the turbo side. One fine steak knife:eek:, mirror, and worklight, 30-minutes of scraping, presto. Thanks everyone again for chiming in: strategy, part numbers and a sense of non-sense:-laf Happy New Year TDR Brothers and Sisters:D
