I took off my air intake hose to change the oil filter, I noticed a little oil residue in the turbo , while cleaning it out I grabbed the turbo shaft and rocked it back and forth, it does not touch the housing but seams to have more play than it should does anybody know how much its supposed to have , I like to know if I need to start looking for a new turbo , only got 86k miles on the truck , thanks

. 020"

Should be ok, if its not touching the housing.

Check it every time you change oil (if your worried).

Are you using an oiled filter element?

previous owner had installed one , it looked new , i took it out and replaced with fleetgaurd, i had cleaned the turbo when i removed the silencer about the same time i installed the fleetguard, about 7k miles ago , oil in the turbo looked excessive to me and im not sure of actual wobble but looks like alot more than . 020 more like . 080 to . 100, i would guess less than . 010 between blades and housing when i push it over toward housing,

Check the intercooler line to see if oil is in it. If there is oil in the intercooler line. . it could be that the turbo is sucking oil past the seal in the turbo cartidge.

This is easy to check to see if the turbo is pushing oil into the cooler. Just take the V band clamp off that holds the elbow on the compressor side and check to see if there is oil. . if there is. . its time to replace the cartridge on the turbo.

You dont want to blow that seal completely out... because that means your engine has 3 gallons of un-regulated fuel...

how much is too much , i would think that it should not be a standing puddle, and do you think that it would be still be covered under the 100k warranty , thanks james

There should not be any oil in the intercooler line. . it should be dry! If there is and you are under the 100k ... yes it should be covered.
