Turbo Shot?

OK, oil on the bottom side of the downpipe and no power? Time to upgrade the turbo?

check you oil return from the turbo bearing, also the input line. check your dipstick and see how much your loosing. if its your input line, you probly burnt the bearing, and seezed the shaft.



could have bad seals on the exhaust side of the turbo, inside, which is leaking around the downpipe couple. i dont know, but id asume it would burn before it got there, but its a thought...

Pull the intake hose off the compressor side of the turbo and put your finger in there and spin it to see if the bearings are shot. If it wobbles, or just doesn't spin very well (or at all), the bearings are shot. Also, when you spin it, listen to see if its grinding anywhere, that could mean some form of foreign object damage. If either case is so, start diggin a hole, cuz that bad boy is dead. Time for a new turbo.



As far as the oil on the downpipe, Jimmy is probably right about the return line.



If your turbo checks out, buy yourself about 5 cases of beer, cuz you're gonna be under that thing for a while.



Before you throw a new turbo on, figure out what did the first one in though. Wouldn't wanna blow a new turbo up, too, then you'd need those 5 cases of beer.

Seriously though, first check the turbo as suggested to see if it spins, etc.

Even if it's shot, it doesn't have to cost a lot, unless you want to do a serious upgrade.

FYI ebay is always loaded with Holset turbos... some stock and some upgrades... that's where I would start my shopping.

Plus someone here might have a remoived stocker taking up too much shelve space.
