I bought my 01 2500 a couple years ago and while on the test drive my buddy pulls the silencer ring out of the glove box. It looked like it wasn't in for very long before it was taken out. I put it back in about 2 months ago and haven't been able to tell the differece. It is very noticeable when I pull a hill. Does having a k&n air filter and full affrighted pipe 4" exhaust have somethin. g to do with the turbo being so loud?

It's the K&N air filter.

The factory style paper air filter has a foam pad bonded to the underside which really does a great job reducing the turbo whine. Put one in and you won't go back to the K&N... unless you like the extra noise!

It's also worth mentioning that the TDR magazine had an article in it some time back where various aftermarket air filters were tested against an OEM filter. As I recall the OEM filter came out near the top! In other words, there's nothing wrong with the OEM filter setup for normal daily drivers, and it's a heck of a lot quieter.

Drive safe,

John L.

I just put in a new OEM filter without a foam pad. The old one had the foam -- I thought it was aftermarket.
