Competition GT40 on a 12V ?

Can someone tell me why some of the twin setups I see are running a spacer between the ex manifold and the turbo and how thick are they the ones I saw seemed to be a bought a 1/2" and are they running a open spacer or divided I'm getting ready to build my own set of twins and I really can't get the answers I'm looking for.
 
it would depend on the set up but, if the turbo has a divided housing then so should the spacer and it is usually for an external wastegate mount and/or to clear the manifold.

Its best to run a divided spacer to help spool the charger better. The undivided ones wreak havic on the divided wall of the turbine housing.
 
does it matter how far the turbo gets from the head I've seen them out their pretty far with an external waste gate spacer I'm planning on building a custom header for this setup just didn't what I could get away with
