have a II ps64/14 on now, and have been trying to figure out my little problem. started out surging from 20-30 lbs of boost. tested for air leaks, and found a couple. fixed them and the surging doesnt start till 25 lbs now, but not near as bad as before. what else can i check to fix this problem? its kinda annoying when i throttle into it and get a ststststst sound! any help will definitaly be appreciated!!

Send it into II & upgrade to a SPS 62/80..... you will love it. High Tech will also do the upgrade & even cheaper.

hey cummins724, which stage afe are you running? i called II and talked to Brady, and he said that my stage 1 might not flow enough for this charger. ive got a buddy that has a stage 2 that i can borrow and see if thats my problem. oh, i also talked to and ordered some Dragon Flows from Geoff. man, i cant wait to get them in! i went ahead and got the 11 flows. lol, there goes what little mileage i was getting!!

I have a volant intake with a stage 2 AFE filter. Dragon flow 11 holes are gonna spool that turbo fast for sure. They are gonna be really smokey for the street though..... get ready for this#@$%! #@$%! :-{} My 10 holes were smokey..... got tired of the smoke at take off.

When I talked to II when I bought my turbo they said that the 64 is known for surging issues on the cummins and has never been the best turbo for the cummins. It works better on other engines according to them. They also said the silver 62 would outflow any 64 turbo out there and not have any surging. My silver 62. has no surge at all.

Exactly... . Brady did a comparison of the SPS62 & PS64. He said that the SPS outflowed the 64 hands down. I can't see going any bigger than a 62 anyways... . unless you are only sled pulling or racing the truck & not street driving.

well see, i didnt have this issue with the 66 i had on before. it would surge whenever the rpms were low and accelerating, not whenever i was slowly getting on it and at about 25 lbs of boost. i'll probably start looking for a silver 62, just dont have the funds now cuz of the new clutch coming in and the injectors!

ok, to get a better picture of the surging i am experiencing, and to see what ya'll have to say about it, with the old 66 i had, it would surge when it was in say 5th gear at like 1600 to 1700 rpms and mph's were low (55 or lower). i expected that to happen with that big turbo. with this 64, i am boosting from 25 to 35 lbs, and rpms are from 2100 and up when it does a ''tstststs'' act on me.
