Just noticed one of mine MIA, is it wise to use grade 8 hardware instead of "normal" stuff for these. I know the darn thing was tight, thinking maybe the heat stretched the bolt and it popped, anyone else?

The Grade 8's have greater strength but unless the bolt was sheared off, I doubt that's why you lost it. The cost difference is slight so if using them helps you feel better, do it.

I would use studs but you may have a problem with stress on the turbo flange. The turbo flange will not support much weight with out cracking. I would check and see if your down pipe is putting weight on your turbo.

Does not appear to be putting any undue weight on it, when i installed the SPS, the elbow for the brake pretty much lined right up to it, didn't have to force anything together there. Have studs on the inboard side, outside had to use bolts seeing as how the manifold and turbo is not threaded on that side. Who knows , maybe the darn thing just loosened up and i didn't catch it, know I checked several times after install and appeared to be holding tight.

I just had to change mine out since they came loose and blew my gasket apart, got new studs nuts and a gasket and im back in business! II said they had a few with this problem I got grade 8 hardware with the oblonged locking nuts to cure the problem.

Its always reccomended to use grade 5 bolts with exhaust components. Grade 8 have more tensile strength, they are harder, which does not allow them to flew very much and will snap easier than grade 5

Is it possible for a nut to just snap off in a hi heat enviroment? Found the old bolt down behind the engine mount. So did it loosen up all of a sudden or did something actually "break, would 've had to been the nut if anything, bolt was intact.
