need help on what to do

what kind of turbo upgrade can i do to my truck to help lower the egt's. with the stock one on it i can not hol wot for any real lenght of time without getting the egt's hot. i thought about going with just a bigger exhaust housing but i dont know which size to go with. my biggest question is what is going to be cheeper housing or complete turbo and which is better. i also plan on going with slightly bigger than stock injectors. i am only trying to reach about 325hp. i don't tow anything really with this truck. it is used mainly for a daily driver and the occasional street race. kinda short on money right now. so i cant spend very much.

I guess you have the stocker on there now? Maybe call High tech turbo and see if they reccomend the stage III Hybrid kit for your setup. If you can mess around with switching parts on a turbo, I dont think it costs nearly as much as if you buy the hybrid straight from them

I'm kinda in the same boat.

What is the next step up as far as Turbo Upgrades ?? Swapping exhaust/turbine housings or what ??

What is the next size housing to go up to ?? Are there charts somewhere showing the Power levels Turbo upgrades ??

The upgrade signal is talking about would probley work for both of you guys with a 14 housing the kit is like 230 plus 80 or 100 to have HTT do it. Its cheaper if you a a mechine shop close to you do the work so you dont have to ship it back and forth.

If you dont mind watching the boost guage NWG prob. isnt too bad, It defenetly is alot cheaper, not cheaper then headwork or a new blown turbo though :(

If you're only looking in the 325HP range, I'd look hard at the DodgeZilla hybrid from City Diesel.

I'm running a 215 pump, 100 plate, 315's and a 16cm non wastegated housing. I MIGHT make it to 2800RPM before I have to let off the go pedal. Depending on what else you do, a larger housing may be a waste of money.

andyman, what gear?

when i last dyno'd, my setup would hit 1300* at about 2250rpm in 4th.

that was before injectors and dv's. now i can hit 1300* at 3krpm in 3rd. backed off the star wheel to help.

refloyd, what trans do you have? if you have a 5spd, you can hit that 325 mark with just a plate and 3kgsk pretty easy. youll want a turbo though. at least if you want to use any of the extra power.

Not to hijack the thread, but to answer BTighe's question... I have EGT trouble in 3rd, 4th and 5th. 3rd and 4th and high boost (39-42psi) and in 5th gear if I lug it (i. e. less than 2k RPM and less than 10psi boost) while trying to build boost. Like if I'm in 5th cruising at 55mph and stand on it, as it starts to fuel heavy, EGT's will rise quick, then the boost hits and the pyro needle heads towards 1300 in a hurry. To sum it up, I could prolly run the 1/8 mile and not worry, but if I tried to run the 1/4 mile, I'd have to let off the throttle before I crossed the finish line to keep from burying the pyro.

In addition to needing to monkey with things like the star wheel and the gov lever arm, as well as plate and housing position, I also need to get the timing set (previous owner set it by ear and feel... . ). Hopefully after I dig in there, I'll be able to straighten some EGT probs out.

I haven't had the thing running for too terribly long. I sold my 3rd gen and bought this truck in shambles as a project. I'm cleaning it up, refurbishing it and wrenching on it.

I'll second the DZ, I have one on mine with the stock 12CM housing & it cools mine fine with the 10 plate slide forward some. City Diesel does not charge for the core, so the price winds up being very reasonable. You can always add a bigger exhaust housing later if you need more. It has a bigger wheel than the High Tech & can support more HP.

I finished putting the HTT stage 3 on yesterday. Tried it first with a 16 cm NWG housing. EGT weren't any better than stock. I then put the 12 cm stock housing back on and I see a 200 deg drop in cruising and on my local test hill I normally could peg the pyro gauge and yesterday It peaked at 1300, I was going about 6 mph faster and about 4 more lbs of boost. I think I may even have a small boost leak somewhere to top it off.

well i think i am going to go with the dodgezilla but i still kinda fear the egt's might still get a little hot after the 370's are installed and i get the auto trans reworked or get it converted to a six speed.

By the way what would be the cheapest way to find a wrecked truck and strip off all of the parts i would need to put the 6 speed in or just go to DTT and get my trans done... ...
