Thinking about upgrading my turbo;--- but to what? Does it increase power that much with what I already have?

Any advise would be appreciated.

With your set up you could get away with PDR HX35 if you do not plan on adding more fuel and yes you will pick up some ponies, but mostly you'll have more top end power as the EGT's will stay in check. If you ever think you'll get more fuel you might want to consider Piers HX40(if you do not have an E brake), wich would still be perfectly fine with your set up, especialy if you tow and give you a little room to grow more fuel... ... . not that we would tell you to get more power. ;) ;)

Hope it helps, let me know if that answers your question.

Lowell,

Do you tow anything with your truck?????

We pull a 30' 5er with our truck and it has a #11 plate in stock position and I do what the PDR HX35/14. On some of the long grades I can run the EGT's up pretty quick. Now with the #10 plate and the DD 2's you might consider something that will move more air. Something in the HX40 family!

While we are talking Turbo upgrades. Am I still in the window for a PDR35 with a #6 and 370's or should I make th ejump to a PDR40? I usually tow around 7500lbs, mostly flat land...

Thanks for the replies

Thanks all for the replies,

How much hp typically does the hx35 make? How about the hx40?

I don't tow right now and probably won't either in the future.

Do you have any other mods? Timing, auto/manual, exhaust, etc? you are probably real close to the threshold, and I would rather do it once and do it right than have to buy two turbos personally.

Nope just the plate and injectors for the engine upgrades. haven't messed with timing yet, I did set the wastegate to 32 psi to keep the wife from barking the turbo, she would push 42 lbs of boost, which wasn't doing much good. The transmission has already been upgraded just need to take care of the air side now.

I would go with the PDR HX40. The PDR 40 spools quickly, hardly any slower than a 35,and it will run much cooler than the 35. The price difference is well worth it,and sooner or later you wil end up with a 40 anyway if you keep adding fuel. Towing the 40 wil allow you to tow without having one eye glued to the Pyro, and use more of your power before having to lift the throttle.

The only thing with the -40 is you will need to upgrade your exhaust. This is a whole other issue as far as brand wars, but a good 4-inch exaust is the one you choose. Pick the best price you can find near where you live, or if you are mechanically inclined, pick whatever you want. Bully-dog, Jannety Racing, Rip Rook, Banks, they all make good exhaust. Pick what you like because the -40 uses a 4-inch downpipe so you basically have to have a 4-inch exhaust. But it is WELL worth it.

If you are looking for an upgrade turbo you should have a 4" exhaust or at least with the turbo install or your going to choke the turbo and not get the full advantage of the new turbo because it can't get rid of the exhaust fast enough with the stock exhaust.

It's hard to say, as every set up produces different results. It depends a lot on how much extra fuel is available to burn with the added air flow(among a few things) 15 to 40 HP would be in the ball park. Give or take a few.

PDR HX40-16 is the clear winner ... tons of R&D. But if you don't want to have to do the 4" exhaust, consider the PDR HX35-16.

In 24v lingo, the PDR HX35-16 coupled to auto transmission w/tight torque convertor, DDII's & Comp box is keeping EGT down, spool up is excellent & keeps the stock downpipe.
