Not sure on the whole deal yet. but My father has a 3500 auto with the banks power pack. Today the turbo decided to quit. Not sure exactly what the whole issue you but he said he has no boost. So tommorow i am heading to His house to find out what is wrong with it. Any suggestions on a turbo if he has to replace it. He already said he is willing to get what is best. So if it needs to be replaced i guess i am up for suggestions. Will post more tommorow mid morning...

Thanks Alex

PS I am going to make him send in he TDR Paperwork. :-{}

Hmm this truck has had banks all its life, been beaten all its life, and 360k Km's on stock, turned up more than the banks. That sucks.

Sorry to hear that

yea check your intercooler boots, if the turbo went you would know it with the white smoke out the tail pipe and clanking noise... belive me i know... snapped a shaft on my HX35 and it sounded horrible with alot of white smoke out of the exhaust pipe (burning oil) and lost a bearing in another turbo which made just a haze out of the tailpipe and a slight ringing kind of noise (compressor wheel rubbing the housing). i have had 4 different turbos on my truck and will never install anything but an industrial injection turbo from here on out, outstanding customer service and a WICKED turbo. if i was him and wanted the best go with a Super Phat Shaft 62/12 or 62/14 with his mods, probably the 62/12 given that the banks probably only gives him about 6 or 7 additional horsepower over stock :-laf

Update

Well got to Keene This morning and everything was apart. The silencer ring was all eaten up... And i think the bearing might be toast. All the fins on the propeller are chewed up. Vaced out the intercooler to make sure no parts go sucked up. (although he decided to drive it when he realized that there was no boost for about 10 miles back home). Had a Spare Cummins with the banks housing and waste gate sitting in the garage. The turbo we pulled off didn't have any markings on it just that it was a holset. The one that was put on was a HX35. Any ideas on what was on there would be great. Looks like the stock turbo on my truck. (one with no markings) thanks for all the info.

the size difference between an HY9 and HX35 are pretty significant, an HX35 bolts together in the center with 4 bolts and an HY9 has a band clamp that holds it together. more than likely you have the HX35, they came in pre 01 trucks and only H. O. trucks after 00.

Gotta love this site. Appreciated all the information you have all Sent. It is the HX35 on the truck and thank you for the info on the hy9. Stay safe and enjoy the warmer weather.
