Took my truck to the dyno yesterday and pulled 305hp and 1400ftlb on a mustang dyno. Then my buddy that works at the place had a COMP box for my year of Dodge and I said what the heck lets try it besides the guy that had my truck before me already had the pump wire tapped. So on went the comp and away we went. On level 3 with the right rear tire smoking on the rollers half way through second it layed 350hp and 1500ftlb with 44lbs of boost!Cool I thought hey lets see what level 5 will do without warning anybody in the shop I put it on level 5 and let her rip,this time when it hit second the tire broke away again and boost shot up to 47lbs before I could even begin to react and POOOF!@#%&^***@*!!turbo is roached!Aborted run shut key off immediately and remember oh yeah I plugged off the waste gate a month ago to see if I was losing any boost with it!Pulled the turbo off last night and it is shrapnel inside;shaft broke,both wheels ruined and probably both housings too. Live and learn. Gee their is a such thing as to much fuel!Honey can I borrow the Durango I need to go to work... ... ... ... ... ... ..... :{

EBung, I was just curious why there is such a huge spread on your dyno numbers. Shouldn't you be pulling more hp to go with that tq? Why do you have such low hp and extreme tq? Just curious.

Yes I agree that is probably optomistic on the torque side but the dyno operator said they just put together an 04 powerchoke with a woof turbo,injectors,chip and propane and it made 260hp and 900ftlb so I guess i'm satisfied for now!But i'm going to leave the COMP alone and get a catcher. Probably in about a year now after this turbo incident. Like I said Live & Learn... ... ...

Jammer 5's and a Comp... 500+hp setup. HX40/35-12cm2 is way too small. Makes sense it let go. Get something sized for the power and it will make good steam.

What would you recomend Locklier?For right now I am going with the same thing only a 14cm non wastegated. Cant beat the price

My setup (460hp) will hit the wastegate @ 42psi with my 35/40-14 combo. Without a wastegate I'd certainly overspeed the turbo. With the non-wg'd 14 housing you'll still be able to spin the turbo into the danger zone (not to mention past the choke point). Gotta get that thing slowed down.

With that setup, you need something larger. Gotta have the 4" outlet turbine housing - something at least the size of a full HX-40.

The Pius (Bell Turbo) WSB would work well in that application. One of the guys at the shop has it on his 01 with some decent injectors (539rwhp) and it works great.

Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it. I dont have the money for a "big" turbo as I am putting down 6 franks for another turbo as it is and I also have a pacbrake that was on the truck already that mounts via v-clamp on the back of a 35 so thats where I am at. Without the comp just injectors it would hit 42lbs with the waste gate blocked and I'll just have to live with that for now. Maybe later i'll sell the pacbrake and buy a comp and a bigger hair dryer but I also still just have a Dana 70 rear and buy the looks of things that mustang dyno had a hell of time holding what I had anyway!

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I just installed a 14cm wastegated turbo housing, at what psi should the gate blow off at??? The acuator that came with it did not fit the turbo, so I had to use the stock one. Right now it blows off at around 32 psi with a boost elbow, that should be in the ballpark, right???

Thanks guys!!!

You could always just plug it and see. I believe more boost is good to much is bad. My turbo was fine at 40lbs IMHO I just got carried away and found the breaking point which was 47lbs with a ton of fuel. With the amount of fuel you have you should be fine. E

How's your egts? That's what prescribes how much air you need. If 32psi keeps everything in check, then 32psi sounds good!
