i like loud turbo whistle! will the afe drop in filter give the same result as a K&N as far a letting more whistle be heard? what have you guys found. my ring has already been xed and that helped but i want more. I plan on ram airing my box with a tube straight out to the front and aslo i am going to cut (2") into my firewall run back to stock box like the scotty.

unrelated if you want miter cut tip in four or five inch just like stock to replace from the bent to the tip in chrome i found the place. instead of buying those cheesy clamp on tips you will have to cut 18" off of the end of stock exhaust and weld on new 4/5 18" chorme tip(it will look like oem tip but it will be chrome. $56 dollars plus approx. $35 for somone to cut and weld on new piece. www.berubes.com

Mine with the AFE megacannon and the guts out of the plastic tube in the air inlet hose has a very pronouced turbo whistle. Thats at factory boost levels. I'm curious how loud it will be when the boost hits 40+ psi. :D Can't give an answer on how loud the drop in AFE is.

I put the AFE drop in filter in mine and you can hear the turbo whine a little more. I replaced the baffle they had in the air hose with the MPC Eliminator Pipe from Genos and that increased the whine some. I have not taken the silencer ring out yet but thats on the list.

AFE Megacannon

I just put the complete AFE intake kit on mine and there is definitely more turbo whine but it is not very loud. If you're looking for serious whine i don't think the AFE megacannon is the way to go. It is nowhere near as loud as my '98 with a stock airbox with a few 1-1/2" holes and a K&N airfilter.

Remember K&N = Warranty VOID..... DODGE had several engines that they had to replace do to the rings being worn out of them. . ALL of them were running K&N Filters. The K&N does not filter the dirt out good enough. . See attached:

ALso I heard that the 03's DO have a problem with the stock filter plugging up quickly do to location AND DC has them on Backorder. . They ran out already because of so many being replaced... . Unfortunantly Amsoil does not show a listing yet...

I have the AFE and I made my own RAM AIR by cutting out a 3" hole in front of the airbox. I used pvc pipe with a screw on cap, Just in case it rains. This way the air still goes through the fender opening

Thanks Amsoilman... I'll have to order one up when I order my Diff fluids... What diff Fluids are you using??

lawdog,

I am using the series 2000 75W-90 in the differentials and ATF in the Xfercase, with 5W-30 in the NV-5600.

I'm new to the TDR so I don't have the issue with the article on air filters. I know from my years with a Hummer that K&N filters are taboo due to letting dirt pass through. I would like to know what the outcome was in the articale about filters. I would like to put a filter in my truck that would improve filtration. Was the Amsoil filter mentioned in the articale? Does it meet or exceed Cummins spec?

Thanks

Gino

them torque tube things really make the turbo sing... you can buy premade ones or make your own. i made my own to match up to my bhaf filter... the turbo sings real nice... :D:D

I had a local muffler shop replace the muffler with straight pipe and cut off the tail pipe and weld a 4" stainless/chrome replacement tip - all for $100. I think they realized that they didn't charge me enough once they were into it, but that $100 bill probably also didn't see the books.

I put a Magnaflow 24", straight through, muffler, an AFE ProGuard 7 Kit on my '03 HO. You could deffinately hear the turbo sing. Then, while at Thunder in Muncie, I bought the AFE Torque Tube. It is MUCH louder, now. When I got home, my neighbor came over and asked if I put a larger turbo on the truck. It is loud enough that some people might find it objectionable. I kind of like it, though. But, I, also, drive around with the radio off, quite a bit. I enjoy listening to the turbo sound and exhaust note. My friends think I'm brain damaged but, they drive Duramaxes because they are the quietest diesel on the market. In my opinion, a quiet diesel is like having a Harley-Davison with quiet mufflers. My new truck didn't have anywhere near the personality that my old '91 W-250 does. But it is developing it's own personality with each bomb. Joe.

Hi, Rank ram. Just a short note of "Thanks" for Your help and advice regarding my truck. I put on the 24" Magnaflow and it is definately louder. Sounds different than the exhaust note from the older trucks. More like a sportscar sound. I, also, installed the BD X-Monitor. I'm quite happy with that, also. Just finished an 8000 mile trip pulling my 7000lb. trailer. Do You notice that Your exhaust really gets loud at about 2200 rpm when you are working the engine harder, like pulling a mountain grade? I think that's the "drone" some folks are talking about. It does get loud but, it doesn't do it all the time. Thanks again, for Your input. Joe F.

Yes Joe mine gets loud, but it is what I consider a good loud.

You are right the 3rd genners do sound different than the 2nd genners. Unfortunately they don't sound as good as my old truck.

Glad I could help ya!
