I had the unfortunate experience of loosing my turbo last month. Caught in the middle of nowhere NEw Mexico it cost me a fine tune of $2150 by the time I was done, plus $165 to be towed 30 miles... (I'm more ****** at the tow then the repair). At any rate, getting the truck back I notice not a woosh as everyone describes but more like a grind, almost like a bad bearing sound when I decellerate quickly. It does worry me as I pull all the time and stress that turbo I'm sure. Second concern, Cummins replaced with a stock unit , I am running a TST box, when I pull it goes 3 and 3 and no more. i try to watch the guages and do the best to keep everything down. I'm not sure if I trust this truck anymore, granted I got abot 60,000 miles on my old turbo and TST box. Total miles on truck is 130,000 now. I'm scared to death that I'm going to spin another turbo before to long. I am wondering if it might be better to trade this thing in for on of the new kwickspool ones you guys are now talking about. I don't know alot about these things but I can tell you one thing, I don't like a Ford showing me up and I push the limits at times to make sure I smoke him. I'm not a kid anymore but still a bit of a sucker I guess. Any advise?

A PDR-35 would be a leap from stock as far as life goes. Anything to get rid of that tiny housing. If you want a unit to handle more power you'll have to step up to something in the B1 line, a HTB2 from HTT, or something comparable. They aren't bulletproof but I can say for a fact my killer B2 is a great turbo for mildly bombed towing.

From what I have read on the board, If you want to run the TST box, a turbo upgrade should be considered a requirement. JMO.

Good luck!

I'm running the TST and the B1-04 for towing heavy and even with the wastegate set low my temps never pass 1076* at only 28 lbs. Now that the B1 is broken in I've turned it up to 42 lbs max. That alone should keep me under 1000* towing easy on 3x3. After some testing simulating full load 5x5 plus 100% pressure on the VA, wot net's me 1150* at 42 lbs and this truck pulls like a MONSTER! Get the B1-04, you won't be dissapointed...

I got mine at Dynomite Diesel from Lenny. Excellent service. Tell him big bald Richard with the dually from Spokane sent ya'. He'll get a kick out of that since he thinks that I'm not telling anyone about them. Not affiliated, just had a great time while I was there. If you need more straight info let me know. I've been putting this critter thru it's paces and I don't have any problem speaking the truth about a product or a vendor here on the boards. Like them or not. PM or e-mail me at -- email address removed -- if you don't want to discuss things on the boards. Doesn't matter to me either way as long as the info get's out there.
