Oil it for Sure. I actually disconnected the shutdown solenoid (12V) and cranked the motor 10-20 seconds until i saw oil flowing from the drain. I think you could disconnect the VP44 and do the same if you wanted to be sure it was oiled properly before the 1st run. Either way i would oil it 1st.
oil the turbo and when you first fire the engine, let it idle for 5-10 minutes. then once it [engine/trans/diffs all at operating temps] is warmed up, have fun
there are two ignition run fuses in the under hood box not sure what one cause I pulled them both but one will let you crank truck without starting over 3 or 4 times for 10-15 seconds to prime turbo.
When I was working on big trucks, we would hold the compressor shaft with a vise grip, and start the engine at idle for a few moments, then install the inlet piping and run it. I don't know if that good idea?
