Turbo?

What is the factory turbo on an 04? is it a HY35?

Just remember that '04 is the year of the change to the '600' engine which has a different turbo. For the '04. 5 I think it is an HY40, not positive though.

I have a friend who has an 04, its not the "600" cummins, he has blew up his turbo and I am trying to find him one. There is a guy in the classifieds who has one for sale and says it came off an 2001, would this turbo work on his 04? If not what years would interchange on his truck? he doesn't have the money for a new or hot rod type turbo is the reason I'm looking for something cheap for him.

The '01 has a different mounting position if I am not mistaken. I do not think that is a bolt on. He could use a turbo from any third gen though, even the newer "600" version should be a direct bolt on. The only difference being the electronic wastegate solenoid, which is easily bypassed no harm done.

I have my stocker that I removed @ 10k, (I currently have 16k on my odo).

CAll High Tech Turbo-www.htturbo.com in Utah. They can rebuild your friend's turbo for a decent price. Rebuilt mine with an upgrade and am very happy. They know all when it comes to that stuff. It's their specialty.

the '03-04's use a HE351 If I recall correctly and the 600's use a variation of the same thing with a bigger compressor wheel.

the HY won't work without serious mods to the intake and exhaust.

Still have the stocker off my 305/555 engine... still bolted to stock manifold too. Let me know if that is of any help for you.
