Had my 2012 turbo go out. It was smoking heavy and the sound from the tailpipe
was like a jet taking off. Drove it to dealer blowing black smoke and going about 10mph.
They replaced the turbo for a whopping 5K. Picked up the truck, drove it home about
75 miles. At the house I checked the oil. It was like black tar. Changed the oil and drove
it for a couple of weeks and checked the oil again. Black tar again, changed the oil again,
drove it a couple more weeks, checked and same thing. Changed again, went on a trip and part
way through it developed a miss and a loud knock. Then the miss went away, noise went away,
smoothed out for about 5 seconds and, bang, rattle, miss. Shut it down. Number 3 or 4 went through
the side of the block on the drivers side. It still ran and moved but rattled. Had it towed.
My question is should the dealer have changed the oil before giving me back the truck?
I'm out a truck with 316,000 miles. Oil was changed every 7,000 miles from new. It was deleted.
Do I have any recourse? Got lucky and found a guy in Houston that swapped out the broke one
with a new one for $7,000. Looking to recoup something from this dealer. Yark in Ohio. Again
any advice will be helpful. The guy in Houston said he always changes the oil on a turbo job. It's
part of the job. Yark says it is not in the procedure manual, but common sense????

I am sorry for your loss but if the truck was deleted than you become your own warranty station!
What program are you using and what power level are you on? Did you do an oil analysis on the first oil change after the turbo failure?

No reason to change the oil. It sounds like from your description that the seal was leaking on the exhaust side. That would have no effect on the oil condition. It sounds more like the oil level got low when the turbo failed.

I agree With Sag2 no connection to windowed Block and Turbo other than the smoke and lube, How many Miles at 10MPH did you drive.

As long as lube was in the crank case I don't think Six miles is enough, its so critical to do OAs on engines that have more than 100K miles. Most likely would have saved this engine. IMO Bigdoc its hard to say what cause the failure... Its Odd being deleted that the lube would be Black in 75 miles.
