If you really want to make that 6. 2 get with the program. Take it out, rebuild it. Drop the compression ratio from 22. 5:1 to 17:1.
You can then use a real turbo and waste gate. You might try and find some bigger rods to hold the load. Put an electric fuel pump on it. You most likely have wear now on the cam lobe that pushes the fuel pump rod and your not getting the best fuel pressure. Get some one to dial the pump up just a little bit. Drill out the fuel return check valve with a 1/4" drill. Buy a new one and keep it with you. If you want to check out the pump, remove the check valve and hold it up to a real bright light. If you see black specs or long black streaks, its starting to come apart. That trash will stop the check valve up eventually and shut the engine down. The drilled out check valve will solve that issue. The engine will shut down if the fuel return line is restricted.
That bugger will run.
We're rebuilding one now at the shop that was in a 82 Chevy 1/2 ton. 300k. We had a bad piston slap. Torn it down and found one piston with the skirt cracked, some in the pan, and the top of the piston cracked. It had been knocking for a while. Sounded like a push rod or lifter collapsed.
They don't have much hp in the stock form, but they will run forever. Good mileage truck with a 3:55 and auto transmission.
