Much talk lately about EGTs and cool down times. My probe is post turbo for cool-down info. Have looked a couple of times at the ad for the Turbo Diesel Life Saver from Geno's. Could those who have it comment on it's convenience, ease of install, value? Many thanks.

Check out my message on the Isspro turbo temp monitor - https://www.turbodieselregister.com/ubb//Forum3/HTML/000507.html . IMO it's a better product than the Turbo Diesel Life Saver and it's cheaper too. If you already have your probe mounted post turbo and it's a K-type thermocouple then you don't even need to buy a new pyro for it - your cost would be around $150. The beauty of it is that it idles for only as long as necessary where with the timer sometimes it will be idling longer than necessary, sometimes not enough. I'll be doing a write up on it for the next issue of the TDR.

The Turbo Diesel Lifesaver operates as advertised, is bullet proof, and best of all idiot proof for installation.

Thanks Steve for your input and your excellent posting re the Isspro Turbotemp Monitor. I recall reading your original but somehow it slipped what is left of my mind. Your remarks on costs and benefits are well taken. Also,I looked at the Isspro website (a real good one)and it appears to my unsophisticated eye that the monitor operates without a gauge, should I elect to use my present setup preturbo and put in a new posturbo probe. Am I correct? And thanks to you Denny also. Your description of the Lifesavers attributes indicate it may be the ticket for the electrically impaired. Thanks again and best regards. Walt

You can use it in conjuction with the gauge if you want or for the ultimate (the way I have it) add another probe pre-turbo and hook the gauge to that. Then you have the best info for performance through your gauge and the monitor to handle the shutdown.

I've got a little more time now! The lifesaver is a direct plug in at the steering colum base. The purple wires are for the alarm/door lock system ( I used neither) drill a small hole for the push button switch, install it (prewired) button up the lower panel and its done. Shade treed in about 45 minutes cause I couldn't find my small drill bits. I didn't understand the Ops instructions and a call to the factory straightened me out. Don't push 3 times for three minutes, hold button until it beeps three times for three minutes. It will operate for from one to five.
I now have 42k on my 99 2500, and it is the second best add on.

Favorite add on -- not sure if it is the Jacobs E Brake, the 35 gal aux fuel tank
(1200 mi. range can usually get to GA for fuel purchases (got stuck in upper NY at 1. 59 gal last week tho) or the 285 bridgestones.

I just wish you didn't have to set the LifeSaver each time - I'd like a setting that idles the engine for 3 minutes WITHOUT the driver having to set it before pulling the key. WHY you ask?
BECAUSE I CAN'T ALWAYS BE THE DRIVER!
I'm sure we've all had to toss the keys to someone who either doesn't understand, is forgetful, or doesn't care as much as we do. Maybe the kid at a parking garage; maybe the service man at your dealership, maybe your significant other, or your kid, but WILL THEY REMEMBER TO PUSH THE BUTTON???
This is a product improvement suggestion, NOT a criticism of the present product which I'm sure is very good.

Denny,
Trust me, the key only leaves my hands when I have no other choices...
send me an e-mail when you complete your exhaust research - That is probably my next upgrade also.
