Hey guys, the old W 250 is completely stock and has 178,000 miles on it. I was wondering about changing out the turbine housing to a 16 cm but am worried about turbo being wore out, housing not coming off, or damage due to loose shaft due to wear over time. My questions to you fellows are: What are the specifications on our turbo? Is it really a hard swap? Has any catastrophic failure ever occured due to installing a smaller housing on a wore out turbo? What is the best brand of housing to get?
I was thinking of just getting another turbo with the upgraded features, not necessarily like an HX 40, but something that will all but eliminate turbo lag and get me to 230 to 250 horsepower. I have the Getrag and stock clutch so I don't want too much power. I would also like to use the 3" exhaust. What are my options? Thank you very much for the help.
