i had a 99, and now i have an 01 high output. I was wondering what the difference in the turbos was? I think the 99 had a better turbo, but can i buy one? and if so how much? Is there a market for my 01 turbo? thanks mike

All the trucks we have seen here have been 10cm's. Lawrence has heard that some very early ETH's and some Canadian ones have had 12's, but we have not personally seen them.

Our old red ETH had a 10cm2 on it. ;)

turbo's

Keith... my truck and my son's were all 12cm... they were made in mexico. . Both of ours were 4x4 and I don't know if that makes a difference. I have not seen a 10cm except on an auto 2001 .

Actually the autos have 9cm² housings ;) And if you look at that link you posted, it states on there 10cm² housings have been reported (but unverified) on ETH's. That could explain some of the temps that people say they see on "Stock ETH's running hot".

ok, i have a HX35W. Now is that the better one to have? I heard people talking that the 99 would respond better to the PM 3 that i put on. It there any truth to that? Thats pretty much the big question i was looking for. I was going to add injectors this week, but i want to make sure the turbo is what it needs to be first. thanks. Mike

turbo

Autos have 10cm depending on how you measure... lol :D I guess Keith has verified some 2001 HO have 10cm or is it 9cm measured a different way! :D

I think those were made in Japan. . for Honda's... :p

The 01 and 02 autos get the 9cm2. That's easy to tell... it has a ridge down the middle of it, and is V-clamped to the center section instead of being bolted.

The bigger the better....

That small little 9cm turbo sucks(no pun intended!). I can't stand that thing. I wish I had an HX35, but I am not really willing to spend that much money on a new turbo, when one day, I will have the needs of a turbo that is much bigger, but untill then... . :(

whats the problem Andrew?

my 9cm hy35 spools up very nicely with the BD2's and VA

EGT's are no problem and spool up is quick

why do you feel so lacking in the turbo dept with a stock truck?

No top end.

Its all relative to how much fuel you dump in. With just the II's and VA I would say it would be noticable difference, but I never had anything smaller then III's in my truck... ... . so i am not saying its a definate difference.

Every since i ran the KwikKurt HX40... . I don't want anything smaller then that ever again ;) My PDR HX35 does the trick for getting me by... . considering the fuel I dump into it.

Mike the reason the PM's behave diferently is due to a few things

first the HO's have about a point more compression.

they also have a little different VP44 on them and the fuel map is a little different.

the HO's dont respond as well to boxes but the injectors (i've heard) will wake it up.

does that help?

Lawrence saw my 01 ETH with a 12cm turbo when I stopped by last summer. But the subject wasn't about turbos though and I didn't point it out to him, so I can't actually say he saw it He was checking out my rough idle issue. I do have an early 2001, the engine was built 1-21-01.
