Chevy propane conversion

Figured my sig was getting long..

This is a two part thread

Part 1 - The Fryer - wwcd2 introduced me to fryed turkey a while back and was it ever gooood. A couple of weeks ago Bill Hill and his wife fryed a turkey, when Mrs Doc and I were camping with them, and we both lovvved it. Anyway, Mrs Doc and I celebrated out 27th anniversary the other day and bought a cooker for each other.

What do you guys use your fryers for? Have any good suggestions and recipes?

Part 2 - Waste cooking oil - It looks like I will be going through a bit of oil with this new cooker. I've decided it's time to try my hand at making bio-diesel with the waste oil. Considering the state of the world right now, it might be a good idea for some of us to learn how to make bio so we can be ready for fuel rationing if it happens.

Any others out there that want to learn how to make the stuff and be involved in collection of waste vegetable oils?

YUP

Doc, Some guys at work deep fry turkeys... YUMM. Jeff uses one of those "flavor injectors" with a soy sauce mix that he won't give the details of, my guess, by taste, is soy sauce, tad of garlic and definately some brown sugar. Do you plan on using peanut oil? OH! NO MIKE... . don't say A-oi-l! UGG

I was going to suggest making a BIG batch of chili... but aluminum and the acidic nature of chili isn't good. How about a big pot of albondigos (sp), that mexican meatball soup... man its good.

Congrats on your 27th, too many give up after a little spat, did you get Mrs. Doc one of those icemakers? My gal and I will be 24 years in holy macoroni later this month! I don't know why she stays!

Mike

P. S. Doc, I always enjoy your posts, ya got a child in ya thats hurtin ta git out! Good quality!;)

We use ours to fry about everything. Turkeys, fish, french fries, chicken wings, etc. Makes a mess outside not in the kitchen, and it cooks faster too. We had a humorous experence the first time we used it. I filled the pan about 1/3 full of oil and got it hot ( probabally too hot ) and my wife brought out the basket , about 1/3 full of chicken wings, and I slowly immersed the basket into the oil, the oil boiled up over the sides of the pot in great quanities hit the open flame and the resulting fireball rivaled any of the Hollywood special effects you have ever seen. Panic ensued, folks scattered every which way as the fireball rolled ever upward. It was quiet exciting for a few moments untill the oil burned down and the fire went out. My 9 yr. old nephew ran into the house hollering " Momma! Momma! Uncle Fireman said SHI>" When it was over and all of the excitement died down I turned to my brother-in-law and said, " that must be why the label said 'do not use indoors" :D

Hey Doc,

Most bullet casters use these. They melt and keep lead at a good casting temperature. I melt up 120 lbs of alloy at a time in the cast iron pot that came with mine. (kind of ruins it for cooking in later):D :D :D

Yeah, I'll use peanut oil but I also got some soybean oil to try on some fish. Peanut oil smells like oriental fryed kitten, while it's cookin. :)

That ice maker is the first model that I bought the Mrs - She didn't like it and made me take it back.

Glad you like my posts. My childishness seems to land me in trouble at times

Thanks for the tip. I'll try making my rootbeer in it. By the way. . I found the worlds best rootbeer yesterday. Siox City Sarsaparilla has a slight bite, when you first taste it, but smooths out once it's in your mouth. Now I need to find a reliable source of it.

How did you know what to do when the fire erupted - LOL

Maybe I better not do my cooking on the deck.

Heath? How did that enter into the conversation? :)

Hmmm - I guess I better not leave the oil container outside. Not unless it will attract the bare neight that is :)

What's a little lead gonna do to ya. Ever hear of biting the bullet?

My dad has fried a few turkeys(mmm good) and has saved the peanut oil and reused it. Still makes the turkey taste great. Its the only way we eat turkey now.

My Dad smokes about 20 turkeys each year at Thanksgiving and sells them. It's been real time consuming. This year he's gonna try a smoking then deepfrying combo to see how they turn out.

HEAT

Doc,I knoe they reccomend peanut oil cause it can take the heat. better check on using others.

I wonder if you can flavor the oil??

Maybe call that Emiril dude!
