Happijac camper tie downs for 1st gen extended cab

Balance tires with little beads?? Do they work?

Anyone using a turndown tip on exhaust? Does it keep trailer cleaner and is it less noisey than straight out?

Reason for question is , MBRP exh is real noisey blasting off guard rails and rock cuts and such when pulling hard. Just wondering if the tip would cut noise enough to not have to open up exhaust again to install quieter muffler.

A turn down will help a little, but the type of turn down is important. The type that still looks like a straight pipe with a bend and slash cut or parallel with the pipe won't help much. Think exhaust stack on a semi. One that carries the bend further will divert the exhaust and sound at the ground more, dissipating the frequency.
In your case, maybe a resonator would help more?

I installed the MBRP exhaust system on my 04. 5, I too was annoyed by the drone on gard rails, ditch banks etc. They sent me a short muffler that I installed in front of the original MBRP muffler that helped a bunch. When I installed a turndown that annoying drone went away.

I would call MBRP explain what you are having problems with. They are great with customer help.

I didn't like the black exhaust soot all over my rear fender and bumper with the stock exhaust on my '05. I bought a 5"X18" turn down from an on-line truck supplier as well as a 4" to 5" adapter. The stock exhaust is not loud but it sure fixed the black bumper and fender.

Just installed turn down tip (MBRP) today. Did not start though... ... ... ..... moving trailer this weekend so should have a better idea in a couple of days.

I tried a turn down on my '98 when I upgraded to a 4" exhaust. I found that it blew up huge amounts of dust when pulling through mountain dirt road campgrounds. I swapped out for a straight tip that put most of the exhaust out far enough to clear the RV OK. On my '06 I installed a Megs straight tip that keep nearly all the soot off the truck and RV. The stock exhaust coated the bumper, fender and RV with soot.

I found a easy cure for black soot on the camping trailer. I bought a new 2013 WALA!!!!!!!! Not a speck of soot on the trailer. . Oo. I suppose if I took the $54,000 the truck cost I could have hired some kid to wash the soot for quite a few years.

Yep, that's the same experience I added a turn down on the 4" exhaust upgrade on a previously owned '97 dually... lots of dust. You will discover the huge quantity of air that is exiting the tailpipe. I've used a straight extension on later trucks to keep the soot off the rear fender and bumper. Gonzo is correct... a new '13 or a '14 dually would end my soot problem. :D

I run a turndown on my truck and it does keep the bumper clear. My trailer never accumulated soot thou, but I do run an 18" shank so it sits a little further back than most.

There are times a turndown makes it louder, and times it makes it quieter. It will help with guardrail blast.

I installed a turn down tip but instead of it pointing straight down it is at a 45 degree angle. No dust in gravel lots (other than the engine fan if the clutch engages) or soot on the fender.

I to have a MBRP exhaust and had the large tip also. The drone was killing us when pulling the camper, a 43' New Venture toy hauler. Installed a 4" MBRP turn down and it did make some difference with the drone but I needed more. Looked and did a lot of research and finally after a call to them bought and installed an FTE resonator/muffler. The difference is night and day. With windows rolled up pulling a grade you can still carry on a conversation in normal tone of voice where before it was almost impossible. It took me about an hour to install, pulled the cat delete pipe, pulled everything else back with a come a long and cut about 4" off the rear pipe and installed the resonator. Also with the turn down tip it did eliminate the soot on the back of the truck, just came back from a 2500 round trip with the camper and there was no soot or extra dirt kicked up from the turn down tip on it either.

Had a chance to test it out this w/e . No more guardrail or bridge abutment blast. It is quite noticeably quieter under heavy load but can pick up a little bit of blast on some surfaces. May try and tip it back just a bit.

Over all it is a good improvement and I can live with it.

Thanks for the input
