Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Transfer Pump Leak Question

I went out monday morning ready to leave for work. Turning the key and cranked but no start and check engine light came on. Checked the fuel filter by opening the drain and fuel came out. Bumped the starter to check the lift pump and it ran 25 seconds and then shut off. Again opened the drain valve and the lift pump is definitely working. Scanned for codes and found a p 1689 code and was not allowed to clear it. After logging on here and searching for that code I went back out, turned the key and started right up, running normally. I got about 10 feet down the driveway and it shutdown and would not start again. Waited awhile, tried again and let it run for a while this time. As soon as I put it in gear and started moving it promptly shut off again. Several cycles of this got it back in it's parking spot so I could get my car out.

I came home tonight and thought, what the hell, lets see if it starts. Sure enough it did. I moved it back and forth a few times and it still ran. Being dark, I turned on the lights to check the gauges. As soon as I did it shut off. I thought this was some fluke so turned off the lights and tried to start to which she fired right up. I turned on the lights and it shut right down again. I tried this several times and had the same results every time. I also tried the high beams only, turn signal and radio to which they had no effect. Turned on the lights and it shut right down.

Open for suggestions...........

More symptoms.......When the lights are turned on, the ASD relay clicks. Thought it may be a bad relay so I swapped it but no difference. Also, the chime that rings when the lights are left on is not chiming.

OK boys (and girls) here's what I was able to determine and what was done to ultimately correct the problem. It appears that the ASD relay was not getting ground. Reading other posts, it was recommended that an additional ground wire from JB 1 to a good ground would check the ground for those circuits. That didn't help. However, grounding the ASD relay directly got everything back to normal. All lights function properly, blower motor back on line and best of all, when the lights are turned on, the engine stays running.
Time and weather permitting, I'll look closer at the PDC.
