2006 5. 9 Mega Cab

I am having random problems with my turn signals. On a wet day they seem to work. On a dry day they work in the moring and late in the evening. Hazzards, brakes, reverse work fine.

Anyone else encounter this? Thanks.

2006 had a change to the fuse box area with a new module. I think this new module can cause weird problems like that. Cant remember what it is called. PDC comes to mind but dont think thats right.

There was a letter that came out about a year ago extending the warranty on the 2006 mulit function switch, you might want to go to Chryslers website and run your vin to see if you got the recall/warranty extension on the switch. I got my letter. Sometimes people experience using their signal for a left trun and the right turn lights blink, some have had what you have.

What you are describing might be a variation on an unfortunately too common problem on the 3rd gen trucks...

What is often the cause of these switch problems is that the grease inside the multifunction switch drys out a little and then metal particles in start forming from the degradation of the various sliding switch contacts inside and then these metal/grease mix migrates to different switch contact points and then cause various random switch contact issues.

Or something like that,

Here are two threads that describe the problem... .
The second link contains a relatively easy, DIY fix, though relpacing the switch is also an option.

Another area to check is the rear tail light bulb holder assembly.

Look at the contacts on the bulb AND in the bulb holder assembly. ANY sign of high resistance (blueing/melting, etc. ) on either will cause the same problem. Been there done that a couple of times.

Easiest most permanent fix I've found is to replace the holder 20. 00 bucks (+/-) AND the bulbs. Also use dielectric silicone when replacing to improve the contact. New style bulbs have VERY little contact area for the current to pass through thus the high resistance and roached contacts.

This will greatly improves the dervice life of both the bulbs and sockets. Has for me.
