I was coming home last night and noticed the reflection of my turn signals in the back of the truck in front of me. I have seen turn signals that flash at the same time as the indicator on the dash, and have seen turn signals that flash when the dash indicator goes off, but on my truck there is no relation between the indicator and the actual turn signal. They will flash together, the gradually they come on longer and longer apart, then finally will come in synch again.

What kind of system do we have here? I know the oil pressure gauge has been produced by some weird engineer that thinks he knows what we want to see, but has he had a hand with this too?

Yup, you nailed it, there is no relation between the signals and the dash indicator ... ... ... . conversely have you noticed that the brake lights go out when you let off of the brake and the third brake light hesitates before it goes out?.

The only thing I can figure here is a safety thing, like the flasher embedded in a stop light (traffic signal) to attract more attention

i find it easier to notice a car turning/changing lanes when the turn signals in the rear are amber and not red. the red doesn't draw my attention as much as they look like brake lights too much [drive in toronto for a while and you'll see some people like to tap brakes quickly and they don't use turn signals often either]

because of that, i rearranged my tail light patten so i have amber turn signals and red brake lights...

the only place i wish there was red lights instead of amber is pedestrian crossings. they have flashing amber lights that are activated by the pedestrian wanting to cross... they should be red i think, to get more people to stop at them. i in the last 6 weeks while i've been going to school have seen too many close calls [one guy was like 6" from be taken out by a ford aerostar van] i think the red lights there would make the crossing safer

Nick, that's one of my favorite of your mods... someday I'm going to do it because I completely agree that bright amber signals are MUCH safer.

I heard that in 2006 Dodge is going to turn signals that "comply with customer expectations". There will be no turn signal stalk in the cab, and the PCM will decide which direction you want to turn. That should clear up the rash of customer complaints about asynchronous blink rates.

Seriously, Yo Hoot's absolutely correct. My only issue is I think they could have made the simulated "click-click" noise a little different... . something cooler sounding.

How ?

Hey Nick... how did you get amber turn signels in back????

Eric ... 03 HO, srw,swb, 6spd, 4x4, 3500, qc, positrac, dc white, 3. 73

About a year and a half ago I converted my '03 factory backup lights into amber turn signals. It was way easier than when I did my '01, since you don't have to run any new wiring. It's just a matter of swapping the turn signal wire from its orginal location to the backup light socket. Simple as that. Naturally, you swap out the clear bulb for an amber one.

I also added LED sidemarker signals as well, so people in my blindspot know when I am going to be changing lanes. Just another added margin of safety.
