Yesterday my turn signals stopped working. I thought the right one worked on the way to work but I am not sure now. On the way home neither one works. The dash indicator will flicker on once as I turn them on then nothing.

I only had time to check the fuses today and they are all good. The brake lights work and so do the emergency flashers so the bulbs and wires are good.

Do the signals and emergency flashers share the same flasher?

I am getting real suspicious of the switch in the steering column. Can anyone say that's not it and steer me to a simpler fix? If not can I remove the switch without pulling the steering wheel and air bag?

I have the factory service manual but have not had a chance to check it yet.

Thanks

Walt

I still have not been able to check the truck yet but will in the morning,

The 98 and older trucks must be different because I was able to study the manual this morning and the 2001 uses 1 solid state flasher for both functions. There is one square blue cube shaped flasher in the fuse panel on the end of the dash. Looking at the functional descriptions and the wiring diagrams the multi function switch has both the turn signal switch and the hazard switch in it It sends power to the flasher and the flasher send pulsing power back to the switch witch sends it on to the left, right or both signals. I am really starting to lean towards the switch.

The good news is it can be checked and changed without pulling the wheel. The bad news is it is held on by tamper proof torx screws and it has so much built into it that it is probably not cheep and I bet it is not in stock.

I will post the final answer in case it can help others.

Yeah, you're right. The 01 does use a combination flasher. Reading over how it operates, it seems that it could still be the problem. Either way, rockauto.com has both the flasher (~$10) and the turn signal switch ($50-$75). Hope it works out for you.

Or-you could if its the problem, R-R the multifunction switch. Check the most logical first.
