My 15 DRW LongHorn is set to flash three times by lightly pushing down on the turn signal lever.

Question is there a way to adjust the amount of times it flashes? I would like it to flash 5-6 times.

I looked through all the options in AlfaOBD and haven't found a setting to change the number of flashes. The only option I found was for enabling the feature.

Big reason I don't use that feature, IMO just not enough to let the crazies know I am changing lanes . Driving thru Las Vegas a week ago getting home, no amount signaling would let me get over in that place. You just have to turn the signal on ,and start moving over when there is a little room , they don't have a lot of choice when a big fifth wheel starts changing lanes . :)

When I drove a semi, I would let it blink 3 times then start over to lane, they'd make room, if you waited for someone to let you in, you'd be there all day

I came off I-15 to I-515 is Vegas and people wanted to force me off on the exit to Las Vegas Blvd. I turned on the blinker and start the lane change, as mfurhtt said, they decide it was better to let me in than tangle with a large pickup towing a 39' 5th wheel. Ron if you think LA is bad, try San Diego.

I should let my wife read this thread and she would understand why I force my way over every time we are towing something. She finally got it yesterday when we were 2 cars back from semi and the car in front of us didn't let him over so he forced his way and the car off the road. Turn signal for the semi had been on for at least 2-3 exits before the semi wanted to get off. Now she knows why I always help guys towing get over a lane if they need it. lol

I don't use the feature. This relates back to driving class held in my high school way back in 1974. Turn on turn signal, check mirrors and blind spots, smoothly change lanes, pass, wait until you see the vehicle being passed is centered in mirror, turn on turn signal until smooth lane change complete. Not many folks follow this,, not signaling, making abrupt lane changes, and cutting you off.

Anhoo, driving is definitely a DEFENSIVE activity.

Cheers, Ron

What is a self driving semi going to do when nobody will let it change lanes?

I can see it now, a group of thug cars get around a self driving Armored Car and slowly stop it or keep it going until it runs out of fuel. Could self driving semis be highjacked the same way?

I understand where you’re coming from....and I also don’t use the feature very often.

In some cases, though, it works well (bobtailing comes to mind) when there’s NO traffic nearby and it’s use does fulfill the “I signaled” aspect in the event a LEO is around, having a bad day, and is looking for somewhat menial things to issue citations.

"Anhoo, driving is definitely a DEFENSIVE activity."

First thing my Dad told me when teaching me how to drive "Son have the attitude that everyone is out to get ya"

Served me well as I have avoided MANY accidents.

I have hit mine twice a few times but most of the time i just push down til I have finished lane change then let off. I HATE when the dash yells at me "Turn Signal On"

Funny, I have been thinking about this the last few days too.

A co-worker got a ticket for not properly, 3-5 seconds, signaling before a lane change. The 3 blinks are not 3-5 seconds.

I'll also dig into AlfaOBD and see if I can find it.

Gary, good on you for checking, but I doubt there are any options to change it... some brain somewhere came up with 3 blinks and seems to be US if not international standard. But if you find it I'm all in to change to 5 or 6 flashes.

Thanks, Ron

I bet it will be fully equipped with cameras and facial recognition software. And a way to notify the troopers even if they cover their face.

He!! my wife gets me long before that warning goes on. She can hear , I can't. That 2-3 blink is something I have never got used too , driven too long without it . Even holding it down to blink I can't get used too. Most of the time its just turned on like the old days, reason my wife is in the truck to tell me shut it off :D

I'm late here but know Lexus had an adjustment and some other truck brands' "auto-blink" goes from 3 to 6, or something like that, with tow/haul switched on and I liked that. I don't think it does on the new Ram's but don't have one to check.
