ok, so ive been bitten by the bombing bug, but i can't seem to find any information about how to increase boost without adding aftermarket parts. is this the only option or is there another way to do it? iv'e read that boost should be increased proportionately with fuel, but how? Im running about peak 25psi, is this plenty for what i have done? (#8 plate, bhaf, starwheel turned, gauges) thanks

turning up boost

You might get more boost by installing a 'boost elbow' in the line from the turbo outlet to the wastegate. However I doubt if it will net you more HP.

Where is the #8 plate set?? Is the AFC housing full forward?? Does all or most of your smoke go away at max boost??

The more fuel you add, [more aggressive fuel plate, bigger injectors] the more exhaust volume and pressure you have to spin the turbo harder, resulting in more boost. So unless you add more fuel I don't believe you need or will gain by trying to get more boost. I'd add a 3gsk next, this will give a lot more performance.

Where are you located? If you are in SE Michigan you are welcome come by and try a boost elbow to see if there is any noticable change with more boost.

Have you taken care of the KDP?? And timing??

Hope this helps, Greg L

thanks for the feedback, my plate is . 020" past where the stock plate was, i scribed the stock location and slid the new plate forward, I am not sure where the housing is located in relation to the block. I only have a little puff of smoke at intial spool up with me foot buried, then it all goes away. timing?

I bought the truck about 8 months ago and haven't adjusted the timing or fixed the KDP, I am in school right now and don't have all of my tools available to be able to fix it. the truck has 223K on it and I am not sure if the KDP has been fixed, should I be extremely worried? I am in California, so I don't think I be making it to michigan any time soon, but thanks. I think I will order the tst boost elbow and a spring kit, I go home in like 10 weeks for 6 months and have a full shop at me disposal, should i wait this long for the KDP and the timing?

KDP worries?

Well the cost to repair the damage from a dropped KDP is so expensive and extensive, I'd get it done yesterday. The rest can wait.

If you keep an eye on the EGT's I'd push the plate and the AFC housing all the way forward and see what power and boost you have then. Just don't pull any long hills out there in the mountains exceeding 1300* pre-turbo or you may pay with some melted pistons.

You'll like the 3GSK, really wakes up the 12v.

Hope this helps, Greg L

I agree with the necessity to get the KDP done, but I was wondering since I am at college, I might get a shop to do it. how much do you think it would cost for a diesel shop with alot of experience to do this?

I think i am goin to get the 3gsks and also the adjustable boost fitting from tst, is there anyone else you would recommend?

thanks for all the help

Probably should take 3 hrs very tops to tab the KDP. PDR, has 3kGSK's, not sure about the boost elbow, might try them for the KDP tab kit also.

Call and ask the shop labor rate for the shop you want to do the work
