turned up fuel...bye,bye transmission!

we tweaked the pump up a bit yesterday. turned up the full power screw and the smoke adjustment on top of the pump. really woke the truck up!



got in it this morning to do some work after i warmed it up for 3 or 4 minutes in netural and i put it in gear and it wouldnt move. finally it slid into gear kinda like it was slipping and i was able to drive it a bit. first second shift didnt feel right. anyway, around the block and almost back home and it done died! limped it home and let it sit for about an hour. started it back up and it drove again! got it in the garage. it seemed normal.



i dropped the double deep pan. atf was black and smelled like an eletric fire. i drained the transmission, did a filter change and fresh fluid. buttened it all up and it seems good as new. i know it's not but at least i can still get around the farm. gotta get ahold of scott and see what a dtt trannys gonna cost. looks like my deal of a lifetime truck isnt such a deal!

That was NOT because you JUST adjusted the pump recently.



What did the oil look like when you changed it right after you bought it?

i never changed the oil after i bought it. oil on the engine dipstick looked brand new! the oil on the transmission dipstick looked like atf but when i drained it it looked black and smelled like burn eletric wireing. there was some material in the pan but not much. the plug had what i thought to be a normal amount of shavings on it.



the slipping felt like it was in between 2wd and 4x4. my daughter and i were down in the back 40 the night before it happned. shes 6months old and loves riding in the rattle trap!

you should adjust the bands ASAP!!!!! also a simple shift kit helps prolong the life of the trans . . especially till you can get a built trans in there...
