I'm debating having the pump turned up as much as the local shop can while I'm doing the whole kdp hassle. Will it be too hard on the pump and stock(215) injectors if the pump is turned up while I save for a set of injectors to put in-probably this summer/fall?

Put GAUGES in before you turn it up!! At least a pyrometer. Have fun! :)

Someday I'm going to turn up my engine, if I can ever get my mileage back to what it should be . . .

Pyro and boost gauges are in, fuel pressure to come one of these days. The more I think bout my question, I think it was when I stopped in to CRP 4x4(Greeley, Co) and they were trying to sell me their special bosch injectors(cause all aftermarket ones are no good-dream on) along with them having my pump turned up 10%. The guy also looked at me like I was stupid when I asked bout a gsk and water meth. Then proceeded to show me the d-max that he was tearing down to raise the compression:confused:-an essential step to help get from 800hp to 900hp:rolleyes::-laf

I'm sure others have had good luck with them otherwise they wouldn't be in business, but i wasn't impressed with his bass ackwards info.

What power could I see with a wide open pump(215), 0 plate, gutted afc, 4k gsk, and rack travel plug?

Jordan

Save you money and slide your plate forward, probably the same thing the "performance shop" would do.

For injectors I'd go with DDP's. I hear they are the real deal;)

Dont do the mack rack travel plug on a 215, its not needed. the 913 and 887 pumps suffer from the plug, to much rack.

Same with the gutted AFC. you will make more power with it set up CORRECTLY than gutting it. All gutting it does is make the tree huggers more apt to get what they want and ban all petro engines because of the smoke you will produce.

A 0 plate in the correct position, 4K's, timing, a CORRECTLY set up AFC, and a clutch that will hold it should make 360-380hp at the rear wheels. a 16 cm housing will help too. That same setup with some timing, 370's and a turbo will put you in the mid 400's.

For injectors, contact Don M, DDP, etc. 370s are not bad injectors either, for the price. They are really really hard to beat, the only draw back being some haze. The good ones arent to bad though.

And dont ever take your truck to a shop that says they will turn it up 10%. That right there means they have no idea what they are doing. And avoid shops that say "we will turn your pump up 2 clicks" like the plague... absolutley no knowledge there... haha.

Also, you can do the KDP yourself. its not bad if you get the Jig from Marv...

So what exactly IS a correctly set up AFC? Seems like a lot of people have different advise on setting the AFC . . .

Not really, a CORRECTLY set up one will limit fuel down low to keep from flooding the mota, but has travel mods done to actually allow full rack. The afc is usually the limiting factor in rack travel. Do a search on here, its been discussed numerous times.

I know ive gone over it once or twice, Joe D has covered it, and so has Jim Fulmer.

I can manage smoke quite well with my right foot, it's only there sometimes. Most often I don't find the need for a huge cloud, or even a big haze. But I've been thinking lately, since I'm working out of state and my wife will be driving it, that maybe I should research setting the afc up right so it will have full travel and not be limiting to performance-but limit my throttle happy wife from emptying the fuel tank into the air. She likes to make smoke frequently, and I don't want to get someone upset at me and hound me because of my truck. I like smoke too, but know that it can't be a constant occurence.

Pwerwagn-

Can you elaborate on the too much rack comment? Right now I have no plate, gutted afc, mack rack plug, and I think approximately 16. 5* timing-I'd have to find my figures from when I set it but pretty sure its not over 17*.

Anyhow-its smoking huge clouds of gray smoke when I do a full throttle second gear start. It definately feels like its hurting spoolup till it gets with the program. No missing whatsoever. When it reaches higher rpms, the gray fades to black. Part throttle accelerations feel much stronger than when I burry the pedal.

Whats my prob? Too much timing? Too much rack travel?

Jordan

Simply put, to much rack is not good either. The 215 pumps are usually better off with a good plate in them, and the plate will usually limit the rack so that the 2095 plug doesnt ever do anything anyways.

You'd be better off putting a good plate in that truck, and doing some afc work to get the fuel you want.

Yep! You are literally putting out the fire. Would strongly recommend starting in 1st gear too, if you're dumping a lot of fuel in there you need RPM to go along with it.
