Attention: TDR Forum Junkies 
Not knowing any better I "assumed" my quick to shift and generally uncooperative nature of the kick down I chalked it up to an "old truck".
Was watching some YouTube videos and found Ovens Garage. Watched the video and then went to the garage to eyeball the TV Cable on my truck. It was up against the attaching point with NO play. Rather than playing with a 3/16's bit like he used I made my own tool out of 3/16's stock. A short section is bent at 90º which allows it to get next to the pin without any issue and will stay in place with slight pressure on the cable behind the locking mechanism. Took 2 tries to get it right but that was the easy part.
Those hairpin springs are another thing. I had one take off on an unathorized-uncontrolled flight and only by pure luck did I find it about 6' from the truck. 2nd time was the charm and I also used a different needle nose plier.
3/16's Hairpins Springs don't grow on trees around here and I nearly went for E clips because everyone has those.
Along another line I feel like the Cruise Control Cable should (or could) have some sort of bushing between it and the TV Cable because it's able to slide around a lot on the pin. Maybe it's been that way since the beginning but I haven't been able to find photograph or a photo from a manual. Below is a photo from the 1992 Service Manual courtesy of our sponsor.
Also a photo of the made up tool. I may have my buddy who British Car guy and a tool and die maker turn a .180 rod just because he can.
