Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) tv cable and tps

: Took truck to dealer for the recall last week (replace ball joints on throttle linkage) when I got the truck back it seemed ok except for later shifts under heavy throttle. : when I hooked to my gooseneck approx. 5k lbs. running with od off when I hit a steep grade the trans would downshift or tcc unlock. I could let up on throttle and it would lock back up. just couldn't give much throttle. I checked the tps it was set at . 85 at idle and 3. 88 wot. the tv cable had no slack and was set 1to1 with the throttle. truck also shifts late under wot. didn't do it before I had the recall done. trans shifts firm with no slippage just can't stand the downshift going up a short grade. ??????????what can i do to help my problem??? truck has 96K and fluid and filter changes regular. soaked tps with cc still the same.

The TV cable should have about 1/8" movement left at the lever on the trans at WOT. Sometimes when they work on the throttle linkage they mess this adjustment up.

Where did you hear this? My transmission guy says it should be all the way back. What would the advantage be of having 1/8" to go? Wouldn't that make the transmission shift later and have less line pressure?

my tv cable has no movement at wot but if I let out on the cable to have 1/8 of an inch it has slack at the start of throttle movement. ?????is linkage off?????

The slack is NOT in the line. It is movement at the TV lever on the side of the trans. At WOT the lever gets pulled by the cable. It should not pull the lever all the way to the stop. If you have it set up this way and there is slack in the cable then something must be wrong with the linkage adjustment or installation. I got this information from Bill K. at DTT. That's the way mine is set up and it works fine.

Maybe that's just for the DDT. Who knows?



Dave Georand said to adjust it so the lever is all the way back when the throttle is wide open and all the way closed when the throttle is at idle.
