8.3 ISC CAPS Injection Pump....

Question for R.E Miller, Csevers or other mechanics

I just caught a glimpse of the new "fullsize" Nissan Titan. It was pulling a large load on a trailer and I believe it was shown out pulling a Dodge Ram. I seriously doubt it was a CTD, even doubt any Ram.

Love the Commercial about the...

new Durango. The commercial starts with Mom pointing out all the nice features about the ride such and ends with Dad saying, "Son, there is only one thing you need to remember. Can you say "Hemi"?" The little boy repeats "Hemi". I have already told my wife, our little ones will have to remember and say "Cummins". :p The wife just says

Can you say "Hemi" ?

Hemi commercials are cool. :D

On the Titan.

Somebody else pointed out that in the fine print these "tests"were done using the Rams standard V-8 which is the 235 h. p. 4. 7. I certainly hope a 300+h. p. titan

can outperform Dodges entry level engine

 . Ain't no wat it will touch a CTD and probably not even a Hemi. I also like the new Hemi commercials:cool: ... Doug

Ram owners can simply be flattered that they are the vehicle to which they compare their product. Of course they cheated, how else they going to sell that thing. ;)

Honestly, I hope it's a good truck with a good engine. If it is then the others will just make theirs better and everyone wins.

The thing about commercials is, whoever is paying for the commercial is going to win the race. It *could* have been a Cummins Ram or a Powerstroke, or a Duramax, it wouldn't have mattered. Nissan was paying for that commercial, therefore the Nissan truck will win the race, carry more, and be the better truck.

That being said, I don't believe that Nissan is going after the 3/4 and 1-ton market, yet. 1/2 ton trucks sell in much larger numbers than the heavier ones and that's where Nissan is aiming right now.

Besides, it's pretty hard to beat 500+ ft lbs of torque with 379 ft lbs when pulling a heavy load up a hill.

Take a close look at the drivetrain under the Nissan. Then look at the drivetrain of a 1500 RAM. The rear axle under the Titan is wimpy! Is that a 7. 5" ring gear under there? :p

Also the frame, springs, etc. The RAM will always be a workhorse compared to the Nissan, which is more of a weekend short range hauler that probably got it's 9,000 Lb tow rating because of braking or parking brake holding capacity, not brute strenth!

(Seriously, yes the parking brake rating has a lot to do with how much a vehicle can tow GCVWR. )

For the heck of it I stopped in and looked at one of the new Nissan trucks. Very cushy inside with lots of extra features that will help sell them. The salesman was bragging about how the automatic transmission dipstick is clamped off, as if "off limits" to the consumer. Supposed to have some special fluid in the transmission that never needs changing or something.

Personally I can't wait to line up next to one at a light, especially if it's a young driver. Love to see their expression when they get smoked by a 1,500 Lb or-so heavier diesel pickup! :D

I have always liked Nissan products in general and the new Titan looks pretty cool but it's not that structurally impressive to me.

Now if they offer the US consumers a diesel engine option in them I'll go back for a test drive but still that won't get me to trade in my Cummins Ram on one.

Well slap me upside the head..

I just did some checking on the new Nissan Titan. According to some literature, it has a rear axle "based on the DANA 44". OK

that's cool, I'll have to get a closer look at it. Sure didn't look like any Dana 44 I've ever seen. And the automatic transmission is a 5 speed electronically controlled. . so that's why the dipstick is capped off. There's probably a totally different, exclusive fluid for the new generation of electronically controlled auto trannys out there.

This is the link that I found.

and this from the Dana site:

I would hope any of our CTD powered Rams are way more than a mere 1500 #'s heavier than any small or mid-sized truck... I know Nissan is marketing the Titan as a "Full" sized truck, but I have not yet seen one in person. Toyota also considers the T100 and Tundra to be Full sized trucks. Yeah... and I'm a 240 # ballerina

The T100 and Tundra are exactly the same size as a Dodge Dakota, which is a mid-sized truck, not Full sized. But, since I seriously doubt what Americans consider Full sized trucks are very common in Asian countries, if they are even sold there at all, a T100/Tundra/Titan is probably considered full sized in those countries.

But even if the Titan is larger than a Toyota Tundra, it still doesn't seem realistic to me that it weighs over 6000 pounds, but I could be wrong

I'm no mathematician, but the Titan weighs around 5,000-5,300 depending on 4x2 or 4x4 etc. according to the stuff I read.

My Ram weighed in at 6,640 at the truckstop scales. That's even less than the 1,500 Lbs I just threw in for sake of conversation in my previous post. Mine is lighter than average since it's a short bed 2500, and does not have any of the common heavy accessories such as tool box, steel tube bumpers, grille guards etc. ;)
