Here's the project -

1979 Dodge W200 4 door repowered with a '93 CTD.

To carry fuel out of harms way, I have fabbed in two Ramcharger gas tanks between the frame rails, over the rear axle. Trust me, what I'm building they have to go there.

I'm seeking advise on -

1 - what is needed and how to convert the Ramcharger gas tanks (pickups, vents, sending units) to fuel tanks for the diesel.

2 - what is needed and how to set the tanks up as a twin tank configuration. Meaning, I want to be able to change tanks in the cab with a switch.

Thanks in advance,

MADDOG

BW, I answered part of this on 1st gen. The RC sender won't read exactly right on my '92 guage. I don't know if it will on your '79. The ports on your tanks are different than mine. I have the later tank with the module pickup, sender, pump, and lines all in the unit.

Maddog, I tried something similar in my 91. I got an old ramcharger tanks and mounted where the spare tire was. My trouble was trying to find a transfer pump that would pick it out of the rear tank and get it to the stock tank. My suggestion would be to pull the fuel out of the bottom of the rear tank, how I am not sure, but that would be the best way to get it to transfer to the primary tank.

I just got done draining out 10 gallons out of mine, as I am going to have to find some way to drill the bottom of the spare tank, and install a fitting on the bottom, so the transfer will work.

I may have to go to something like this:

Tractor Supply Company - 15 Gallon Fuel Station

This is my back-up plan, a 15 gallon tank, that I should be able to mount in the spare location, as it already has a welded fitting installed, all I would have to do is mount it and hook up the filler neck. Hope this helps.

G-R-D, get a 12v diaphragm pump, mount in-line between tanks. I got extra quik connects for the fuel tank from the junkyard. (watch the sizes, there are at least 3) I drilled the extra tube sticking up on my regular tank, and put a quik connect on there. I had the wife blow air in the tank while drilling, all the shavings blew out. ;)

This won't work for Maddog, he has the old style tanks. He should be able to hook to the existing fuel ports, then to the valve. The pump might work after his switcher valve though.

I wouldn't want a fuel port in the bottom of my tank. With my luck, it'll get knocked off!

I have done the same thing in my Crew project. What I have done (please note, this is what I have DONE. I have not tested it yet...) I used a factory Ramcharger fuel pump from NAPA, and I not have that to deposit the rear tank into the front tank. The front tankl is setup exactly like the factory had it.

I was originally going to go with a 6 port fuel valve (see ebay and you will find many - 6 port is needed as you will also have a diesel return line now) however as I am now also running a FASS, the valve could not handle the continuos fuel flow.

For guages, I picked up Autometer programable units as I also thought the dash guages will not work.

Hope this helps!

BW. What do you have in mind for your project?
For my project I'm thinking about my making a custom flatbed with boxes under the bed and fuel tank between boxes on the bed.
Thanks, Tom
