Competition NHRDA 2014 Season Kickoff Party

Question for all you twin turbo guys??? My boss is big into his heavily modified 1968 Kenworth (N14 powered) Anyway, he had it dyno's a year an a half ago and it was just over 1200Hp the the ground with one HUGE charger and 80Lbs of boost. He is now really getting into drag racing with it... just pulled a 15. 8 with it yesterday... not bad for a 20,000Lbs tandem!!! He know's that I am building a set of twins right now for my 5. 9 and have got alot of info from you all and he is wondering what his options would be. He is thinking of going with a non-compounding set up though (3 cylinders per turbo) but I think that compounding them would be better. Say he were to run the way he wants and he could get 60Lbs per turbo would that be inturn 120Lbs into the manfold or would it only be 60?

I personaly think he would be better running compound with a smaller charger up top for better spool up and a larger one than he has now for the bottom.

Does anyone have any info or knowlege on this subject? if you would like more info or pics on the truck I would be happy to post them. The truck is real impressive to see at the track!

If you copy and past this you can see a pic of his truck 2 weeks ago at another race.

Two parallell turbos making 60 psi is only 60 psi.

Compounds on a N14? It's possible, Cat does it all the time on their big engines.

Yeah:cool: just look under them new Pete's- Two Huge Twins!!:--) Probably take a couplea HUGE shots of juice to get them spinnin on a 5. 9- :-laf :-laf Reprogramming the new Pete's computer nets 625 H. P. :D Definate BullHauler material.....

Yeah, I know the the C14's and C15's have compound chargers (we have 8 trucks with them) and they don't look that big! The charger he is running now is larger than my HT3B. So in reality I think he could run something 2times bigger that in a twin setup

If it is in a 68 KW, it is not an N14, it is a NTC, NTA, or somthing similar to that. The N14 is an electronic engine, the NTC is 100% mechanical.

The NTC 475 came stock with twins, not sure the size, but that might be a way to go, if anything you could use some of the parts to help fab up a set with your own choice of turbos.

I was thinking this too. Maybe he installed a N14? A good guy to speak with on big KW power would be Brian Block, aka KTA-Cummins over on www.diesel-central.com.

I thought I posted this above. It does have a N14 in it, The whole truck had a frame off back in 2002 and at the time they were going to put a Signiture600 into it bought thought the N14 would be easier at the time to make the power. If you click that link above that I posted you will see a picture of the truck and the great restoration that went into it!.

:p Shame he didnt throw one of them 12cyl. Detroits in there:-laf :-laf Then you'd be looking for a quad turbo setup. :--) :--) :--) :--) :-laf

the 475 twin turbo is a KTA (1150 cu in), not an NTC (855 cu in)

You could get the NTC in a 475 HP rating, twin turbo, and the KTA in 475 HP rating single turbo.

Run a search on google, you can get entire parts breakdowns for both motors, as well as CPL numbers to use for parts lookup at Cummins dealers.

has he changed out the buttons in the pump?? I know that in itself will make a KT motor come alive! Just something to ponder, if he has not done it yet!

AGAIN... its an N14!!! Has anyone ever seen a twin set up on one of these and does anyone know of any links or have any idea's???

He is also working on a 77 Kenworth Cab-Over with a Detroit and will be racing and pulling with it next year also!!!
